Rehearsing to explain to tomorrow’s new doctor that I am late renewing, but yes, I still need my ADHD meds. You see, my usual doctor graduated, and no one told me who my new doctor was, so I couldn’t make an appointment because … that requires advanced levels of functioning that I do not have.

me, Friday afternoon, cracking open East of Eden: this definitely won't be like last year w Lonesome Dove when I thought it would take all summer and then it destroyed the next three days of my life me, Tuesday morning, wild-eyed, twigs in my hair: does anybody want to talk about GOD and CALIFORNIA

Tried to start the Zellweger Judy Garland biopic with my mother-in-law but turned it off like 15 minutes in because she said it was “too sad.” Well, yes, we do know how it turned out, after all. So much for trauma-bonding with added show-tunes today, I suppose.

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

Awoke from a dream where I, a person with no prior musical talent or experience, had successfully been cast in Rent as a chorus member. After telling everyone I knew, I discovered the audition was not for the Broadway cast, as dream-me believed, but for a three week tour in Beverly Hills.

I was bummed that I didn’t have any Labor Day weekend plans but then I found out it is Rib Fest AND Soul Food Fest all weekend here in Pittsburgh, so now I will be weekending by eating my favorite cuisine, “food from a booth.”

Few things make me feel as fancy as being able to read one quote from an article in French without needing to translate it. I took four years of French in school over 20 years ago, and being a tacky unilingual American, I feel so *sophisticated* when I can still make sense of it in small doses.

now that they make a gatorade that's 75% less sugar in addition to gatorade regular and gatorade zero i want gatorades that are available in 5% increments from 5% sugar all the way up to Gatorade 125 or Gatorade 150

A moment from Daisy Chain Fields. I highly recommend marrying someone whose favorite band, that you’ll end up seeing 100 times, is a band you also like. I married a Garbage Superfan and I have no regrets. I want to be Shirley Manson when I grow up.

Crowd shot against the barricade at Daisy Chain Fields with Shirley Manson from Garbage walking by. On the right side in the crowd is a visible open wow mouth. There is an arrow pointing at it and the text reads “This whoa mouth is me”. It literally is me.

I felt them saw the boards for my casket as I overheard two people meet in the Daisy Chain Fields merch line. “Oh! You’re still going to music festivals in your 30s. That’s great!” “Yep! Just turned 30 in April. I mean, I don’t go as hard as I used to.”

There is so much amazing crop art this year at the Minnesota State Fair focused on the resistance to the ICE occupation we faced, this one in particular had me choked up.

Crop art with a whistle text says

I can't keep doing this
I have to keep doing this

The Dark Wizard, former cat cryptid, will have you know that he is *not* in a human lap. He is just here protecting his orange friend from the human and kind of balancing on a foot under a blanket to be here. And he knows you call him Potato because he is a little round from eating so many treats.

A small gray and black tabby cat with pointy ears and a white chest and paws stares into the camera while laying on a spring green blanket. A patch of orange fur in the corner of the photo is his nearby orange cat brother.
