Lol, we're about to televise an execution while whinging that code that illegally hacks businesses to collect and sell our information shouldn't be turned off. Pretty soon, A fucking I will have more rights than women in America.

BREAKING: The Trump administration is using a grant program from the 1980s to force cities around the US to funnel their ongoing collection of Flock, Axon, and other ALPR data into large federal surveillance centers that fall under the White House’s jurisdiction, 404 Media has learned

How Cities Are Forced to Funnel License Plate Data to a Massive Federal Surveillance Program

How the federal government built a massive database of license plate reader data through an anti-drug trafficking program.

The funniest thing about the Schmitt rake stomp is that if it'd been a Dem we'd have a week of think pieces about how Dems lack of hoops literacy was alienating them from real America.

One thing that surprised me moving into tech research from academia was how much time and effort I’d spend reminding product teams that emotions are part of the user experience and we need to design for that intentionally. Tech is forgetting/ignoring the “human” part of human-computer interaction.

For an industry that monetized affect to take over the world, it has abandoned that quickly with AI. It doesn’t feel good. it isn’t fun. It doesn’t make you feel sharp. It makes a lot of people feel dumb.

i pledge my sword to the politician who just says: let’s leave trans people alone, i don’t know or care what a hasan piker is, and i condemn the genocide in gaza. stop hiring consultants that make you say weird stuff that nobody likes.

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be “It’s simple math, vote blue no matter who, grow up” and ALSO believe you are fighting fascism by making calculations as to who’s expendable. The world we’re in now demands more from us. More from everyone.

Clearly the PRC is not benign and in many ways worse then the US even now, but given the UBI AI utopia described by Silicon Valley types is clearly communism, I’m at least willing to hear actual communists out. Whereas when Elon Musk suggests UBI he’s clearly just lying

I respect the Chinese AI companies more because they straight up say that the purpose of the technology is achieving communism. this is from deepseek.

you have the freedom not to love this country too. because a state is incapable in of feeling or returning love. your feelings otherwise are irrational. I appreciate and am grateful I was born in a safe, stable and affluent country. I don't love the USA. It certainly does not love me back.

In the U.S., "free speech, including the freedom to criticize the government and its leaders, is not a sign of our democracy’s fragility. It is evidence of its strength... Here you can simultaneously hate the content of a person’s speech and love the country that cherishes the freedom to allow it.”

The secret of Dolly is forgiveness. Not just for individuals but in 'people' as a concept. Not that anyone needs forgiveness, as if they did something wrong. But as flawed, troubled and struggling day to day. The philosophy of Dolly is, thats alright. Here's a little help, and try again tomorrow.

despite the claim to "seeing both sides" they actually understand neither the only encounter progressive arguments as summarised by centerists sneering at them & they encounter fascists through a sanitised lense

My unpopular Comparative Politics opinion is that approximately 30 percent of a country's adult population are kooks, radicals, reactionaries, etc.. A functioning political system, i.e., parties, institutions, and economy, keep them out of power by containing, excluding, and reducing respectively.

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Jennifer Romig @jennifermromig.bsky.social · 2mo ago

Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

I think it harms Journalism that the message that the media has sent to us over the last several years is that no matter what a person does it’s impossible to credibly be sure that they are a Nazi.
