It's such a common move. One bad thing for the left is always The National Story, any number of good things for the left are ignorable local news quirks. Chesa Boudin's (really strange) recall? Proof that Progressive Prosecution is Nationally Dead. Krasner's win? Foxx's win? etc etc etc? Crickets.

Honestly, I'd say the most disastrous decisions of Obama and Biden were not really holding anyone accountable for crimes committed under the previous administration. Obama wanted to "turn the page" on Iraq and the financial meltdown while Biden never put any urgency behind the January 6th cases

This is an incredibly important point. The overwhelming majority of the assaults claimed against DHS are complete fabrications. NO ONE should take them at face value. Real reporters call them "alleged assaults," they could never prove them in court.

And FWIW, one reason this is critically important to get right is bc DOJ has used the large numbers of assaults THEY FABRICATED to justify further "conspiracy" investigations into protestors. You can't understand Stephen's crimes w/o understanding that it's virtually ALL made up.

I tell the story for the same reason the movie related the story, whether or not it's fully true. When we divide the world into enemies and friends we lose something we love about ourselves. Sometimes it's necessary to oppose a movement or a mob, a people or a pogrom. We must stand athwart war.

Because they're "serious journalists," Maggie and Swan treat DHS' bullshit number about assaults of goons as if it MIGHT BE real. If you can't recognize THIS as propaganda, how much else can't you see for what it is?

Symbolic but still important; the Trump admin declares war on American communities. Secretary Mullin says DHS is "at war," so he's changing The Great Seal. This comes after dozens died in ICE custody and ICE officers have shot and killed multiple people this year, including two American citizens.

The Department of Homeland Security has decided that the agency needs a new official seal. Where the ubiquitous American eagle faced the direction of the olive branches in its right talon, now the eagle will face the opposite direction — towards the arrows it clasps in its other talon. “We’re actually changing our seal to make it look towards the arrows because … when it looks towards the arrows is when it means we’re at war,” Secretary Markwayne Mullin revealed in a Fox News interview this weekend. “Homeland Security is at war every single day against bad actors trying to hurt our backyards, and we’re not gonna allow that to happen.” So in other words, the United States is at war here at home — but Iran somehow isn’t a war. What? In October 1945, seven weeks after the Japanese surrender in World War II, President Harry Truman issued Executive Order 9646, the first order in American history to define the great seal in legal language, with the eagle’s head codified as facing toward the olive branch. Truman said it was to reflect the new world of peace. Churchill quipped: “Why not put the eagle’s neck on a swivel so that it could turn to the right or left as the occasion presented itself?”
