For all travelling south from #CADS2026 that do not need to speak with anyone, I can recommend the quiet coach at 10 on the platform (look at the ground, yellow circles with numbers tell you where the coaches' doors are). Aircon and everything, at least on the train I took.
In our final plenary speech @bwking1971.bsky.social reflected on the challenges and developments of using corpora to explore online discourse over the last 20 years! #CADS2026
Soon time for my talk at #CADS2026 on how a gender-neutral pronoun has been translated (hint: nine different strategies!). The slides are available here: osf.io/z5k9j/files/...

Yeyyyy that's us! And in open access, too! We show that gender-inclusive forms (think the point median in French or the gender star / asterisk in German) index speakers’ presumed age, gender identity, and political orientation.
Benjamin Storme @bstorme.bsky.social, Naomi Truan @berlinguistin.bsky.social, Jo Lychnara and Gráinne Deasy explore the association of gender-inclusive language with left-wing, progressive politics in French and German. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Extract: The postdoctoral researcher will work on projects related to human mobility, forced displacement, and vector-borne diseases, managing fieldwork and data analysis, and publishing scientific articles.
Really interesting presentation by Benedict J.L. Rowlett on the analysis of readers’ letters on gender and sexuality in the South China Morning Post. Good to know some diverse past voices from citizens on LGBT+ topics. #CADS2026
In the fiction track at #CADS2026 - here is @nfdykes.bsky.social presenting our work with @anastasiaglawion.bsky.social on #janeausten and #fanfiction - the transition to the talk by @mixosaurus.bsky.social couldn’t have been better if we’d planned it

In this morning's plenary speech, @matteofuoli.bsky.social argued for the synergy of CADS and experimental methods. An excellent way to kick off day 2! #CADS2026
@avantgardening.pl I'm at the Corpora & discourse conference, and this was just on display. Hope you can read the title.
#CADS2026 fascinating historical visuals and even more fascinating data (questionnaires filled out by members of the Canadian military) which @rachellevessey.bsky.social uses to tell us about sexual violence in the military
@tamsinparnell.bsky.social has deconstructed Starmer's discourse of a broken public service system, and reveals in numbers one reason why the PM left yesterday. There are rarely any means to move forward in the discourse during Starmer's time. Her study should be reused for other nations! #CADS2026
I'll be posting my #CADS2026 stuff over at Mastodon, contributing to the more open part of thr Fediverse. If you're there, please follow @elmerot@polyglot.city (not-bridged server, unfortunately).
Agree, this is the tag to follow for corpus-assisted discourse news this week! I will hold a presentation on how the Swedish gender-neutral pronoun “hen” has caused headaches for translayors, and what their chosen strategies mean for discourse.
Hashtag to follow this week is #CADS2026, for the Corpora and Discourse conference in Lancaster. @mantrap.bsky.social have a paper, on mainstreaming 'misandry', but sadly I still cannot be in two places at once 🤷🏼♀️ Have a great time, everyone!

Sun and heat in Lancaster today! If you're hungry or need a coffee on arrival or departure, I can empirically prove Tuck on Meeting House Lane (close by the railway station) to be an excellent choice. They close at 16:00, though. #CADS2026 @corporadiscourse.bsky.social
Packing for conference going in Lancaster! Rain coat and sunscreen – you never know. Also: CAMRA venues noted on map. If anyone else is there on Monday, let me know if you want to have a pint and chat! #CADS2026 #CorporaAndDiscourse @corporadiscourse.bsky.social
