@darach.bsky.social I know you sometimes post about names, and it just struck me Dickens didn’t just invent Ebenezer. Google says it was the 68th most popular boys name in Britain in 1840, but I can’t find a source. Has any other name been so effectively killed off by its use in literature?

“No doubt” is an odd expression. At face value it means certain, there is no doubt. But used in a sentence it has more of an air of “I suppose”. No doubt you’re all fascinated by this idea.

Enjoyed seeing Hull win the playoff final after putting with Middlesbrough fans giving it the right wing chanting in Sheffield at the darts. Downside is having to go to Middlesbrough again next season. The days of decent away pubs like Doc Browns are gone.

Been going through the Rebus novels again recently. Someone “nods slowly” dozens of times in each book. Once you notice it, it sticks out every time.
