Had to go to the QEUH today and I genuinely don't understand how the walking route from Cardonald station to the hospital campus has avoided the avenues treatment. I know not everyone can walk for 20 min but it would improve access so much for workers and day patients.

Weather has cooled here and the wildlife is making itself apparent. A new(?) pair of tawnies flew past a couple of nights ago, then today we finally saw a kingfisher again, both after months of absence. Also got to see and hear the pair of very loud branching buzzard siblings in the park.

Today's slap on the face. Tasteless Herald ad on Instagram offering up the 50 year archive of the CCA for sale. Tonight Save Our CCA meets at the Garnethill Multicultural Centre at 7pm. See @save.our.cca on Insta.

It has been over 10 years since the BearsWay cycle lane phase 1 was completed. Due to angry, ignorant voices none of the following phases were built That was and still is a tragedy. With nearby Glasgow investing in active travel it is time for East Dunbartonshire to finish the #bearsway!

Still friends with quite a few people I met on social media in my teens. First people I met were in Glasgow and then once I went to uni I met others in London and in the Welsh Valleys by overnight National Express coach. They are therapists, teachers, artists, gardeners and musicians.

Brilliant news that the city's taken this view in the consultation 👏 A really important step towards a proper examination of the (many) options around the M8 city centre corridor, rather than speeding ahead with like-for-like replacement. @replacethem8.bsky.social

Council response favours demolition stretch of M8 motorway in Glasgow

The other thing is that in a gig economy there is no degree that promises a good career anymore, not because you should have studied computer science or social media management instead of history or Russian literature, but because there are no careers

In general, (re)orienting education wholly or chiefly to specific perceived market needs is always going to produce disaster once the near term passes. It also eviscerates institutions that might otherwise help people weather change, intellectually and in other ways

Don’t offer a genius a prize with conditions unless you want them to interrogate those conditions. (The demands aren’t onerous if you’re the kind of person who knocks out a promo video before lunch and never thinks of it again but most writers aren’t like that and HdW more than most.)

Helen DeWitt on turning down a $175k Windham-Campbell Prize because she wasn't able to handle the prize's mandatory publicity requirements. Imo a moving, deeply relatable, and darkly funny story about money, obligation, mental health, & executive dysfunction paperpools.blogspot.com/2026/04/we-l...
