Happy message from the school nurse saying don’t send your kid to school with diarrhea season to all who celebrate.

Anyone in the Seattle area need a 130mm stem? I’ve got a couple of nice ones left over from my racy-fit days (no longer have the bike - helluva bike the roadie). Hit me up!
Walking or biking somewhere like this makes me furious. The lack of dignity and respect baked into our infrastructure and driver behavior is fucked up.
Amazing how a little rain makes the speeding and narrow sidewalk issues visible and...tangible as in I am now soaking wet after walking my kid to school in what is otherwise just light rain. This is what makes routes to school feel unsafe and walking feel untenable.
In ERs, we see the impact of unsafe roads regularly. Cities with good bike infrastructure have fewer deaths and greater safety for all, regardless of whether they’re walking, cycling or driving. Ontario gov should reconsider how to spend $48 mil Improve lives - not put them at risk #bikeTO #onpoli
Why hundreds of doctors are fighting Ford’s removal of Toronto bike lanes

When it comes to road safety, cities have two choices: Adapt kids to traffic: keep them indoors and drive them everywhere. Or adapt traffic to kids: make streets safe enough to move as autonomous members of society. The choice says a lot about the kind of city we want to build. youtu.be/O_WjWRmQwtg
BREAKING 📣 For several days, a peaceful protest took place in the morning, after a young child was killed by a car driver. The child was riding his bike to school, the father with him. The grieving community came together with hundreds of people, cyclist or not, creating a 3km long human bike lane.
Let gravity be our guide. (Still need that beacon hill tunnel east-west connection)
My dream bike network, where we prioritize bike infrastructure in the valleys and places with steadier inclines:
Obsessed with this woman who came up on my TikTok algorithm, who is trying to sue the city for giving her parking tickets

"we should make transit better so people don't need cars as much" "but transit doesn't go where I need it to" "that's why we need to make it better" "but what if it comes at the expense of cars?" "it will. that's the point" "but people need their cars" "you wouldn't" "but I do"
I felt so strongly about this nextdoor comment that I decided to do a dramatic reading of it. I hope you'll listen with the volume on to fully appreciate the quiet reverie.
"quiet reverie" only Nextdoor posters could get all poetic about driving their car on a road 🙄
Got stuck working from home one day this week (early east coast meetings), but managed 75 miles or so of bike commuting nonetheless. That’s enough to even my disposition. Praise be.
There are a lot of terrible lieutenants in this administration. A lot of their damage can be undone quickly. But RFK's anti-science bs is gonna leave a mark that is much harder to undo.
RFK Jr: "We are also looking at chemtrails"
The irony of people giving public comment against safety in the name of historical preservation at Pike Place Market while a car is currently stuck on the Harbor Steps.
NEW: Alexis Mercedes Rinck has proposed an amendment to Rob Saka's SAFER Streets Act that would give the City Traffic Engineer explicit authority to implement street changes in historic districts (Pioneer Square, Pike Place) without getting the approval of the local boards.
A little salty from observing feral drivers the last couple of days. This morning, modern sedan absolutely floored going down a neighborhood street by Brighton Playfield, terrifyingly doing 50 easy. While enforcement used to be at least a possibility on arterials, I feel like there was never that
I don't think the sharrows worn from 50 mph traffic on 1st Ave through SoDo warrant it being on the map. It is a completely unremarkable stroad treated as a highway with a few stoplights.
the fact that the NTSB is conducting a federal safety investigation of the helicopter crash, but nobody is going to do anything about the original deadly car crash, really shows just how few fucks our country gives about every day traffic violence that kills 40k people every year
Looks like more people use Rainier Ave through Columbia city than they do the greenway to go north and south. Shoutout to Lake Washington Blvd for being essentially a bike highway.
Given a rise in wage inequality between 2024 and 2025, particular a drop in low-end wage levels, I expected there might be an an increase in income inequality in the latest Census data. Here we see an increase in the 90th percentile of the income distribution while no improvements at the bottom.
It's just 10 years old, but it's definitely a classic. If you're the kind of sicko who is into rim brakes and bar end shifters, this isn't bad, and in the best color the cross check ever came in.
Waiting for the school bus drop off by a traffic circle on neighborhood streets. 3 cars approach at roughly the same time. Each one proceeds to honk another, lol. Comedy gold out there.
I mean, it’s a start. But it’s also not like we don’t have the data and know where crashes and fatalities happened before. We could be doing that work in at all those sites too.
The City is launching its new Emergency Streets pilot program, which provides a rapid-response approach to traffic safety by installing temporary traffic-calming measures within 48–72 hours of a fatal crash. The goal is simple: increase awareness, reduce speeds, and make streets safer right away.
Ummm... how did this car get onto the I90 multi use path? Video from a user in the Seattle Cyclist Discord.
Happy surprise to find new speed cushions on MLK Way S through the Central District this morning. @transportation.seattle.gov moving very quickly to implement @mayor.seattle.gov’s Vision Zero Executive Order.
"With every motorized vehicle churned out, and every square foot of space they stole, a me-first, get-out-of-my-way way of being increasingly took root." You should read both of these pieces.
