Genuinely, the vast majority of American voters believe that only laziness or criminal intent could be stopping the average immigrant from obtaining US citizenship. The truth is that becoming a US citizen takes years upon years of work and requires navigating a baroque bureaucratic nightmare.

Everyone likes to leave out the part where the streetcars had been failing for at least a decade and the trend toward buses happened due to simple economics. The GM conspiracy was a simple antitrust case; they conspired to monopolize the burgeoning bus-manufacturing industry

In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
this guy (doomloop dispatch) literally killed a biker with his car… and he’s posting on twitter how it just made him even more anti-bike lane. The NIMBYs are not OK.

Mitch McConnell isn't dead, but he is dying, and the best possible situation for Democrats is the one we have now, where he's too sick to leave the hospital but too stubborn to resign, and you should be extremely suspicious of people demanding Democrats rescue the GOP from this situation.
Everyone wants to yell at Democrats or "the left" but the plain fact is that Republicans are the only ones with the power to immediately save us from this nightmare. Every day they choose not to do so.

This is a usefully revealing comment in how it shows that the US is not protecting Israeli leaders from war crimes charges because Israel is somehow manipulating the US through Epstein kompromat, but simply the shared interests of war criminals.

45K+ bodies a year. In my city we have 3x as many fatalities from reckless driving than homicides. 1. There exists dumb traffic cameras which just take a picture of the plate & the offense and are not networked to other system. 2. Most PDs aren't even using flock cameras for traffic violations.
Don Zeko@donzeko.bsky.social · 2w agoThere's a pro-traffic camera contingent on here that thinks the public safety benefit of a panopticon on the roads is easily worthwhile. I'm not even sure they're wrong, but the downsides are quite real and concrete.

Trying to fix a problem just means that people notice the problem exists and blame you for it. Ignoring the problem and pretending it doesn't exist means you can act like you solved the problem and people will assume you have. Yes this is describing the Democratic and Republican parties.
Kari Dru@karidru.bsky.social · 3w agoRe: cyclospora, Taco Bell having ethics and going "you know what, it's always the fucking lettuce, why don't we just pull that until we know what's going on" resulting in all the outlets going "LETTUCE SOLD AT TACO BELL LINKED TO EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA" is a fantastic way to discourage ethics in future.
Nobody disputes that having access to a car in a car-dominated society is good. It gives one access to jobs, healthcare, food, education, social opportunities and more. All we're asking is for people to go one step deeper and ask why access to such basic rights requires buying and operating a car.

The market for yelling at Democrats is broader & deeper & more profitable across the board then the market for yelling at Republicans, in every sense of profit
