💢 The Resistance Calls Israel’s Bluff

Dr. Sami Al-Arian tells Jeremy Scahill that Palestinian factions accepted a deeply contentious weapons decommissioning roadmap to put Israel, the Trump-led Board of Peace, regional mediators, and the broader international community on the spot.

“It was a bitter pill to swallow,” he said, but Gaza’s resistance was under immense pressure as Israel continued daily attacks and refused to allow the entry of aid and relief promised under the ceasefire.

The “resistance decided to call their bluff,” Al-Arian says, because the deal, if enforced, would halt attacks, end Israel’s permanent presence in Gaza, and end the threat of expulsion.

The decisive principle of the offer was reciprocity: weapons would be relinquished gradually if Israel withdrew and guarantors enforced the deal.

Israel’s rejection of the deal came within 24 hours.

Israeli airstrikes bombed medical warehouses near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, early Saturday 1 August. The strikes destroyed at least half of the facilities and extensively damaged nearby tents sheltering displaced Palestinians, witnesses said.

🇵🇸💢 “The disaster is even more severe”: Israeli strike wipes out much of Gaza’s remaining strategic medical stockpile

An Israeli strike destroyed two of four central medicine warehouses at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, including equipment and solutions needed to keep kidney dialysis services operating.

Standing amid the wreckage, hospital director Raed Hussein told Drop Site contributor Abdel Qader Sabbah that the attack would have a “direct impact” on dialysis care and could force the hospital to halt treatment unless replacement supplies are secured.

“The damage is even greater, the disaster is even more severe, and it will make it much harder for us to respond in the coming period,” Hussein said.

Dr. Mounir al-Bursh, director general of Gaza’s Health Ministry, told Al Jazeera Arabic that the warehouses held the ministry’s strategic medical stockpile and that the strike destroyed large quantities of medicines and supplies.

More than 52% of medicines and 54% of medical supplies are now unavailable, including dialysis supplies, al-Bursh said.

He warned that Israel’s blockade, restrictions on medical imports, and repeated attacks on Gaza’s remaining healthcare infrastructure are depriving thousands of patients of treatment.

“The loss of these warehouses means losing life-saving medicines and making patient care even more difficult.”

🔹Drop Site reporter Abdel Qader Sabbah: What happened?

🔸Palestinian woman in Gaza Fatima Sharab: Yesterday, we went to sleep under a ceasefire. Trump announced a ceasefire, and things were going in the right direction. Everything was fine. There were no problems.

We slept peacefully and happily, thinking that the situation would get better from tomorrow onwards. They woke us up at 2 or 3 a.m. We went to sleep on the assumption that things were going to get better, that life would get better for us, and that the people of Gaza would see a different life from the suffering and misery they have seen.

They woke us up at 2 or 3 a.m.: “Get to the hospital quickly and take shelter.”

Even the orders were unclear. Should we go west or east? They told us to go to the hospital and seek shelter because there was a house about to be struck. This was clear, and we left calmly. We thought it was just for the purpose of taking shelter because we were sitting inside the compound of a hospital, which is supposed to be a humanitarian and safe place.

🔹Abdel Qader Sabbah: What happened next?

🔸Fatima Sharab: They struck, and we tried to return, but there was no going back. What do we go back to? There was nothing.

The camp here is composed of tents and a warehouse for kidney medications, for dialysis patients. So what was the problem? What did we do wrong? What did we do to deserve this, us and the dialysis patients? Who among us is guilty?

Do you see how the tents are shredded? You can’t even tell where your own tent was or where your belongings are.

Today, we have no shelter. I don’t even know what to say anymore. No food. No water. The mattresses and blankets we had managed to gather after losing them 15 times are gone again.

What is left after this? I want someone to come out and tell us: What is our situation? What is the solution? What comes after this?

Are you going to build us houses now that our tents are gone? Will you bring us food, water, and mattresses?

Footage from Drop Site contributor Abdel Qader Sabbah shows the aftermath of an Israeli strike on the main medical warehouse at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, which also shredded nearby tents sheltering displaced families.

“What did we do to deserve this?” Fatima Sharab said. Families believed conditions would improve, only to be awakened at 2 or 3 a.m. and ordered to flee.

The strike destroyed their tents, food, water, bedding, and the warehouse holding supplies for dialysis patients.

“What did we do wrong? What did we do to deserve this, us and the dialysis patients? Who among us is guilty?” Sharab said. “Today, we have no shelter.”

Umm Yahya Hassouna said her family of 12 fled barefoot and later spent more than five hours digging through the wreckage to recover food, clothes, or a mattress.

“Our fate? We don’t know. Destruction,” she said. “Our children are barefoot in the street… and we have nothing to feed our children.”
