Did Becker and the Mpls Times split? She's no longer listed as their editor, and they no longer link to her author page, though it still exists: minneapolistimes.com/author/carol... She was publishing multiple articles per day until Jan. 16 and then just had one in February and none after.

This makes it sound way more dramatic than it is. Reading the order, he's got until January to have 731 officers with MPD (or amend the charter). If he doesn't, next April the city will explain why not. He's not going to jail or anything, and odds are this will be settled out of court before then.

It was a massive error in judgment for Mayor Frey to nominate Chief O’Hara while there were active investigations into very serious accusations that had been rumored for months. This is what happens when you prioritize optics and political expediency over governance and accountability.

I agree that the people obsessed with pushing poor people out of Uptown are making the place unwelcoming to all of us.

Is the endgame here to fight it to a draw and then get a federal ban on partisan gerrymandering? Because I get the need to fight back, but I also don't live in Minneapolis so I can have primary voters in Bloomington, Edina, Mankato, and Owatonna choosing my congressional representation for me.

I’m sure there’s more to consider, but my instinct is that council pushback on Todd Barnette re-appointment makes more sense than pushback on O’Hara. IMO the biggest issue is we aren’t developing non-police safety solutions fast or well enough. A new police chief doesn’t change that.
