Watching Shaw Bros’ Mad Monkey Kung Fu and no one does a training sequence like they do. The only problem is when they hire an olympic gymnast actor for the lead role who will be swinging from ropes, the actor able to do that will already start the movie with tightly defined muscles. 🎥

Finally got around to watching Trouble in Paradise last night, and it has a moment that all the best pre-Code movies have, where I am jumping out of my sear at what I am hearing. The dialogue in the spanking scene is what you would show to someone to get them to understand why these films ruled.

Kicking off this summer’s B&N Criterion Sale with two films from the 1930s: Trouble in Paradise and Captain Blood.

I saw 1995’s Jumanji on a date when I was in high school, and my initial reaction was that we were too old to be seeing that movie, as its audience was elementary school kids. However, after seeing it 30+ years later, the real problem that I should have identified was that its CGI looked *horrid*.

The first step is admitting you have a problem with buying versions of Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 Self-Titled album on every possible format. Now I am up to: 33 1/3 LP 45 LP CD DVD-Audio SACD Blu-Ray Audio I wouldn’t have players of any other formats in my house currently.

i worked in several casinos and later for an online sportsbook. the best advice i can give you is to stay the hell away from all of it.

In a meaningless third-place World Cup game, a coach can play a team with many of the same players who recently suffered a crushing loss, and hope they recover for national pride, or a coach can play a totally rotated squad filled with young players fighting for a spot in the next tournament.

To paraphrase Jack Handey, It’s easy to sit there and say Tuchel’s decisions were wrong. And I guess that’s what I like about it. It’s easy. Just sitting there, rocking back and forth, saying his decisions were wrong.

Watching 1922’s Robin Hood on Cohen’s Douglas Fairbanks double feature, and I genuinely love when silent film scores add the instrument to the soundtrack that accompany what is on screen. I can see a trumpet with my eyes and now I can *hear* a trumpet with my *ears*!? Classy. You have won me over.

Started working on Shawscope Vol 2 (it has been sitting unopened for over two years!) with The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, which was the only Shaw Bros movie I had previously seen before getting these Arrow sets. My memory of it was accurate: the hero’s journey but he starts not knowing *anything*.

Feeling like I missed out on the Sweden hype by not watching their first game and wanted to see what I had missed. By halftime of the #nedswe game, feels like all their hype has already melted away, before I had a chance to get on the bandwagon.
