I was looking for an old quote and found this year old artcile where a Kotaku writer feels so stupidly about Nintendo not having achievements. "ARE THEY TOO GOOD FOR ACHIEVEMENTS??" Yes Zack, they are. For all I can criticize about nintendo, they actually design their games.

More batch lerp() / line() tests for #picotron 0.3.1 The batch lerp can take a table of parameters that are each themselves an index into a quad definition. There's something like 3 layers of indirection going on there, but it enables a very tiny per-quad inner loop. (1000 polys / 60fps / 55% cpu)
want to see my favorite deterministic number generator? it's a linear congruential generator. there are value sets for which distribution is quite good, and it's very lightweight if you're doing procedural generation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_...

loren schmidt@lorenschmidt.bsky.social · 2w agoadvice for programmers: for most procedural generation you don't actually need "good" number generators! use whatever you like. it doesn't have to be cryptographically secure, it's the x, y position of a cactus.

The whole game preservation movement strikes me as working in the EXACT wrong end of the problem. You can put as many floppies and discs and piles of old hardware as you want in as climate-regulated a warehouse as you want, it's going to decay. In 100 years, all of that shit is gonna be useless.
I sometimes see Europeans who fancy themselves founders complain that it's not like the US over here. I wonder if they actually understand the externalities of US finance or if they believe number go up means it's all good in the hood. Because they can't literally want neofeudalism over here, right?
You don't seem to understand that Microsoft is happy to spend 100 billion dollars wrecking the US games industry because that means they will have inordinate power when it comes to rebuilding it. Like Uber wrecked taxis, Microsoft is wrecking videogames. They will reshape the market in their image.
