Wow I have three food related meetups and the next two days I will also be fed lunch hooray
Things you do for love: look up easy air fryer southern style biscuits because your housemate loves them and the only place that has em easily in Malaysia is...texas chicken. Guess I'm baking this weekend.
Yesterday was a sad day because I cooked twice and both times were awful. Today made French toast and for lunch fish barley porridge and fortunately both were decent. 😌
it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun
Less depressing news - gifted a pair of Corelle Miffy noodle bowls.
Once upon a time my Twitter posts were regularly getting five-figure views, and million views per month. Now I'm lucky if I get 30. But it's OK not like I'm monetised there lol. The shadowban is prob because I mock Melon a lot.
I quit PC gaming because I didn't want to be beholden to the price of parts (GPU prices were bothering me over 5 years ago). ...little did I know how prescient I was -_-
Least favourite part of my job is interviewing people. I hate it lol (mostly I hate the grunt work involved the question vetting the transcribing). Talking part isn't so hard and writing it comes with the territory but all the other extra stuff around it? Ugh.
If this is what happens to a scientific field as a whole when LLMs dominate the workflows of researchers, I can only imagine that the outlook is even worse for any individual researcher who is soldiering on without using them. 😞
13. Hence our dismal conclusion: rather than finding that LLMs free us to do a better job of what we were doing before they came along, they shift scientific incentives (and the playing field of academic competition) in ways that compel us to do more and more, faster and faster, less and less well.
Hank Green got cancer. John Green wrote the ableist tripe that was TFIOS. I hated TFIOS before I got cancer. I hated it even more after. Like I was told oh the prose is so good blabla and all it did was send me into an absolute rage with phrases written by a mind of crayon.
Hank and John Green are just Jake and Logan Paul for registered Democrats.
Have been escaping the existential dread and misery by gaming a lot.
I've written a longer piece on the book that's been pulled due to "AI" use allegations, what that means particularly for newer authors, and what, if anything writers can do in the "AI" era to prove their work is their own: whatever.scalzi.com/2026/07/31/a...
Another Reason Not to Use “AI” For Your Writing
Back in February I did a long post about “AI” and why I wouldn’t use it for my own writing, and one of the reasons I gave was “the fact that ‘AI’-generated text …

Persona 5 Royal has consumed my life. I get why it’s always in the must-buy list for Switch games lol
yeah we gotta make sure this lady has the saddest post-loss career possible
She knows she’s losing so she said let’s just go mask off.
expectation: when u come to malaysia dee will take u to hawker to eat malaysian food reality: when u come to malaysia dee will take u to the mall with the giant sphinx and pyramid to eat hotpot

breaking news 99% of linkedin posts thrown in a digital wood chipper
Oh my God, this is not a drill - LinkedIn has added 'seems like AI slop' as an option on posts Genuinely thought it was a joke until I clicked on a few posts
I'm just crying reading all the tributes for Glen Hansard. Once upon a time I spent my saddest years listening to him sing with so my hope and energy. RIP Glen. Thank you for the music.
Guys it’s worse. These people ordered mcd merch. This an over RM100 order what do I do with it? Take a grab? Jesus.
So I was sad and ordered fried chicken. Guess the universe is punishing me for not ordering from Hot Bird instead because why do I have three people’s burgers 🫠🫠🫠🫠

So wild and self-absorbed of me to cry about Glen Hansard dying because I'm so angry I forgot about the man who was a regular mainstay of my days, when I was at my saddest and loneliest.
I think I'm probably in a better space now, weirdly. Despite my feeling intermittent waves of anguish and anger. I'm no longer waking up at 7am every day for no reason. I can sleep in. Because I'm not frozen in survival mode anymore. Am just staying in bed and having fried chicken today.
I'm heartbroken that I had to remember I haven't listened to The Frames/Glen Hansard in years because Glen is gone. These days I wake up feeling such abject despair as the world goes down in flames and some people I know will NOT STOP USING GEN-AI FOR STUPID THINGS FOR FUCK'S SAKE.
cashier today told me he knew me from twitter and said him and his partner still use “the butter’s penthouse” 😭
People can't understand that sometimes a piece of media is 'not for me' and that's OK. Not your taste does not mean bad but it's depressing that seems like a distinction beyond many people.
putting aside how dangerous this is for people's finances, it really is tragic how this chips away at wonderful things sports have to offer society. at their best, sports are for community, family, friends, and social ties. placing little bets on your phone separates you from the good sports can do.
I wrote about how much Americans wagered on sports betting in 2025 and how it’s more than they spent on movies, art, museums and music combined. Read my article @fortunemagazine.bsky.social fortune.com/2026/07/26/g...
Nice read on what a dog’s death says about Chinese civil society at present by @alriclee.bsky.social
What a Stray Dog’s Murder Tells us About Chinese Civil Society
Wang Wang has appeared on billboards around the world – visible proof that China’s censorship does have limits.

I am normally the first to defend civil servants. However, if this reporting is true then there should be mass firings and if at all legally feasible, criminal charges. To butcher a West Wing quote: everyone who did it, everyone who ordered it, and everyone who knew about it.
