Unfocused Warcraft rambling.

The only energy they take into work is the same that Afrasiabi had when he put Drek'thar into a wheelchair purely because he thought it'd piss Metzen off You can feel that level of childish spite overwhelming the game from BfA through now. They view the game as a tool to mock its fans.

It's increasingly baffling that every aspect of this IP is correctly telling you how awesome the WC3-vanilla WoW period of the Warcraft setting was and telling new stories in it while retail is like "we're running away from it as much as possible and we know it's sucked but give us another chance"

something to be said that undead players are so ecstatic about today because they get new content of their favorite race looking cool, somehow this is not a design focus for every single playable race as seen with blood elves in midnight

With that recent interview, we now know this is true: they do not have any idea what is making it to final release because everything is segmented into isolated spreadsheets that Ion can glance at and check Story Quests off a list. You should expect anything they say about TLT may not be true.

have to add, leadership also seems to have no idea what even makes it to the final product. Maria Hamilton's description of elf unity at Gamescom is *nothing* like the final release. Paul Kubit acknowledges disappointment with it and tells ppl to play side quests that don't exist for more nuance.

one of the only good writers WoW has reposting a rant about hating unnatural therapy speech in dialogue makes me feel bad knowing the people they have to work with, especially knowing those people are probably itching to kill off Astalor the second they think they can as retribution

WoW protagonists, who are now always intended to be correct and the arbiters of all morality, more and more coming off like sociopaths is a perverse turn for the company. I continue wondering if they've externalized all fault for the 2021 lawsuit to the players and think we need lecturing forever.

Having *Liadrin* throwing out a "for Zul'jan" is the most insane place you could have possibly put that lol

3 years ago I wanted a world revamp, now I don't think anything would make me permanently quit retail WoW more than it. Yes, ruin Durotar for me. Make every orc say riveting lines like "go with honor and mercy" and "strength, peace, and honor". Make the Tiragarde humans the real heroes of the zone.

Arator's story is insane for many reasons, the primary being people are employed as a creative writers to make it. Human beings wrote that professionally. They are paid a salary to do so. I'm kind of in awe.

Neutrality has always just been a very easy way for blizz to write alliance characters into prominent roles that would otherwise require blizz to use a horde one. Elven unity for example has functionally made Void elves, Umbric the lead force instead of any horde group that could be made for use

Multi-racial protagonist with famous parents with unique power over multiple cosmic forces that is best friends with everyone on both sides and every notable character are part of his extended family of mentors that are all dedicated to his success as the chosen one. He is back.

Med'an, the laughable self insert-tier character of the early 2010s that was an embarrassment swept under the rug by writers that knew he could never be put in-game.Arator, the same thing as Med'an but now free to cannibalize the in-game story, largely because he is a Windrunner (Azeroth was promised to their family 3,000 years ago).

Please also notice that the same expansion that suddenly reveals all the Amani actually hate Zul'jin is the same one that has the elves unify in the name of Anasterian, a leader previously portrayed as a moron whose isolationism and nationalism lead to the massacre of his people.

So how'd it go? Zul'jan redeems himself by renouncing all his beliefs and proclaiming the superiority of his sister, who believes in nothing, before dying. The deaths of her father figure and brother have no impact on her because she is a plot device to pacify the Amani and not a character.

This is the continuing thesis of modern WoW: don't believe in anything. Conviction is a universal evil and a sign that you are being possessed by a cosmic force or a ghost. Irreconcilable hatred for the Forsaken? No, a ghost did it. Irreconcilable hatred for the elves? No, a ghost did it.

Tapping the sign on the prescience of these posts (except for Metzen changing anything) from Sean Copeland's wife from 3 years ago and as a heads up to those that did not follow PTR that the upcoming Arator quests are reaffirming that he is the Most Chosen, Most Special, Most Noble Main Character.

well there has to be a point where you're continually sparing and redeeming a group you've doubled down on being allegorical to white supremacists while going out of your way to humiliate and kill someone you explicitly state is a victim of colonialism that you start questioning the devs' morality

On the eve of the patch, it's worth remembering that the entire storyline of these characters, near beat for beat, was predicted by many people from this screenshot alone a year ago. One would help this proves deeply embarrassing to all writers involved with this plot, but probably not.

think a large part of why modern draenei stuff works is because it consistently focuses on the culture and people as a whole vs. throwing it all on the pyre of main character focus that plagues the rest of the game. it's from a bygone era that treats you like a character vs. a weird voyeur

I like how if Quel'danas was the final raid of the expansion this story would make so much more sense, if Xal'atath was trying to unleash Kith'ix to break through to the Sunwell. But we're dealing with writers that can't even comprehend cause and effect or linear time so what can you do!

I think people should be more prepared for TLT Northrend to have substantially more in the way of SL characters, races, and aesthetics than anything related to the factions or any of Northrend's lower fantasy vibes sans the inevitable neutral vrykul allied race

I have to cycle back to this two posts in a row because it really is obvious anymore that the lore is now viewed as "content" like everything else. It's designed like segmented, disconnected blocks pushed out. Why would they care if the old stuff is constantly invalidated? They view it like gear now

We've always had to accept that WoW's lore is pretty fluid, but at this point, there is no actual lore. There is Current Patch Content and nothing more. Anything that came before is irrelevant, mere suggestion at most, even within the same expansion.

Not a lot more that can be said about Midnight itself but I've truly never seen a dichotomy like this in the fanbase where its defenders are so totally disinterested in Warcraft itself and just want it to end. They recognize the story is a liability for Blizzard, and so they want it to stop existing
