When do you reckon we might face up to this one, my respected Aussie farming mates? I've been banging on for years about how "free market capitalism" is a kill box for any moral or ethical values that get in the way of profit maximisation. When are you going to grow a spine?

Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security. Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations. Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people. —Harry Truman, 1952

Does any Aussie support this nonsense?? If for what ever delusional reasoning some part of our citizenry actually does support fracking in the Kimberley surely 100% of even those people would prefer a legit, professional mob to do the work, yes? Zero political leverage... 100% state capture.

Completely agree. But it does beg the question of why not also "return to what matters most" for: - healthcare - food, farming - power and water - media, law - government.... These are all fully distorted by capital. It's like we've given up having other ideas about how to organise a society, no?

University administration needs to be returned to a focus on what matters most, teaching, research and serving Australian society, not corporate greed and profits and the myopic, meaningless pursuit of deeply flawed rankings. www.crikey.com.au/2026/07/14/u...

I’ve made a fair few hammers in my day, but all under the conditions of havin a grand ol’ fuckabout with friends. It’s so good to finally make a few Proper hammers under expert guidance that I’m going to actually be excited to use. 💖

Medicare for All - "That's socialism!" Social Security - "That's socialism!" Debt free education - "That's socialism!" Universal childcare - "That's socialism!" $1 trillion in tax cuts for the richest 1%... "That's just how it is."

South Australia hit by a massive, multi-year coastal algae bloom, mediated by global heating and nutrient pollution, yet it *still* doesn't measure and report one of the biggest nutrient inputs to that system, discharge from the Murray River mouth. Simply incredible.

Incredibly, the South Australian Government does not record flow at this location, where Australia's longest and most important river system finally enters the sea ... even though that would be ~trivial to do.

Curious how it is 'nature' that's implied to be at fault in reports of the spread of highly-pathogenic H5 bird flu. Tip: It was us wot made it, via pathogen mutations within the ~35 billion (yes billion) red junglefowl we keep packed in cages around the world; kill and eat millions of every day.

Yep, never would have thought that for-profit organisations are focussed primarily on for-profit. Such an awkward way to get anything done... except of course producing profit. Sigh. Capitalism. There must be a more efficient organising principle to achieve collaborative outcomes in society.
