Anywho, I've yet to find a job that makes me healthier. It's more like "this job affords me access to health-enabling resources to offset the health-harming effects of the work I do." The nature of work under capitalism means that someone else always benefits from my work more than I do.

I lost my parking (which costs $360 per year). The lot I was in for 12 years was sold last year & I was transferred to a new lot a 7 minute further walk away. I found out today that that lot was converted to student parking. I am on the wait list for 5 of the 7 closest lots to my building.

I’ve been writing a counter narrative of shutdowns that has me revisiting media from that time. And let me tell you, the only other option was everybody die. So yeah.

it’s pretty obvious that a lot of people remember that COVID lockdowns were unpleasant and from there just extrapolate that they were therefore bad policy

an immigration lawyer working on some of these Haitian cases today says an ICE officer told them, re: the ankle monitors: “We’re following our orders.” Direct quote Hm

From Bob Hermann who is an observer at the ICE facility in Springfield: "I was an observer this morning at ice facility for Haitian check in. Fortunately peaceful but those that went in did not come out. Maybe getting ankle monitors or being detained. Lawyer seemed visibly distraught"

I agree strongly with this -- in that difficult moment, the possibility of collective effort was conceivable. Not everybody felt it, but many did. I think the political class did not like this one bit.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

Anyway back to my ongoing theory that women use AI to get more done and men use AI to get out of doing more.
