I am here to bike but tonight I am here to watch sailboat races apparently 💙 and have island lobster and sundries. And talk to my lovely waterfront server about Anne of Green Gables. I also drove through the night and just didn't have a big ride in me today low on sleep. Lots of scoping out.

The only place I ever saw this $150K public purchase was on social media and all the local media for the roll-out. Happy one-year anniversary, Archie? I've yet to see you in action, but the glass continues to be bad. moundcitymessenger.com/2026/08/05/c...
City’s Bike Lane Clearing Mini-Streetsweeper Remains Missing in Action
While local cyclists continue dodging broken glass in the city’s protected bike lanes, questions about the status of the city’s dedicated cleaning equipment have grown.

Good morning from Prince Edward Island, Canada! Caught the sunrise after driving from Maine 🌞
Dude. Edwardsville, get it together! I don't understand how this crash happened www.theintelligencer.com/news/article...
Hot take: Lambert Airport is actually fine (albeit a bit quiet).
if there's a sunday chore you hate doing i encourage you to avoid it. yes you've painlessly knock it out every other week and yes it only actually ever takes 15 minutes, but what if this time it kills you? best to avoid it
Um, why am I receiving religious messages from our government? 😩
Gonna make this but not the crust. Grandma Hemphill always assured me and even demonstrated many times that crust is not a big deal, but then I look at the directions and head directly for the mercies of the pre-made

I agree strongly with this -- in that difficult moment, the possibility of collective effort was conceivable. Not everybody felt it, but many did. I think the political class did not like this one bit.
Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

About 100 folks gathered today to calling for Slusser to resign as the leader (chair) of Madison County government. His fellow Republican predecessor and rival Kurt Prenzler rolled down his window at us and said he agreed Slusser was wrong to post that Dr. Fauci should be publicly executed
Well, and BlueSky (bless its heart) attracts a lot of the sort of folks who sneer at actions that might make things Somewhat Better in the short-term while we advocate for the long-term solutions. Gotta do BOTH, folks.
I'm a proud owner of the War on Cars rain jacket (& a teacher of youth cycling all across the #STL bistate), but I find this kind of tone and post so disheartening, guys. I know it's easier (& gets lots of likes) to endlessly spout the "we need to redesign streets" part of things while shrugging 1/X
Catching 74 distracted drivers in six hours is good, but what would be better is redesigning the street so drivers are forced to pay attention.
Apparently scientists aren't too concerned, but this stuff is freaky to me. It can't be a good thing to unintentionally smash things into our moon. #DontLookUp

Teen has 'self-defense' claim in Ferguson shoot-out that killed Lyft driver, lawyer says
A teen's lawyer on Thursday morning said the 17-year-old had a "plausible self-defense" claim for his role in a Ferguson gun battle that killed his uninvolved Lyft driver.

On Day 2, our BWorks Earn-A-Bike students practice fixing a flat. Well, today was Day 5, a practice ride before their graduation ride next class for this Alton crew, and guess what? We got some real-life practice (yay glass on park paths? 🫠).
Joe is trying to help the boys each play with their respective toys at the same time 😆🥺
I desperately want to blog/reflect, aaaand I desperately want to sleep. Hrmm
Dang, I thought for sure is was a factory in Oklahoma.
Told one of our (fabulous) BWorks teachers today that if he is going to keep regularly leaving intriguing dad jokes/riddles like this on the bike classroom whiteboard, I am gonna need him to write the answers to the riddles too after the kids guess. What is your guess? :)
This is not an especially attractive selfie, but it is accurate. I'm pretty tired/sometimes sweaty these days, but I'm often surrounded by an awesome @stlbworks.bsky.social gang, and they are constantly telling me the most interesting, hilarious, sweet things while we ride. 1/2

... we saw cyclists of all ages and stripes encourage each other, help prepare our bikes for the most successful adventure possible before we headed out, and so much joy and fun and laughter.
We're so proud of the crew of 19 BWorks youth and helpers who pedaled 6.6 miles through beautiful Forest Park together last night! We saw an owl, beautiful fountains and skies, and even some dinosaurs 🙂 But most of all ...
