Sometimes we get asked: is electoral reform really a priority right now? Yes - because how we elect our MPs impacts everything: the governments we get, the laws they pass, the direction the country takes. We can’t solve the problems we face without a healthy democracy.

📈 Two-thirds of Labour members want a National Commission on Electoral Reform - with just 16% against the idea 🌹 “Andy Burnham agrees, almost 100 Labour MPs agree, and now a majority of Labour members polled agree this is the best way forward” - @alexsobel.co.uk

🎆 The anti-social misuse of fireworks is one of the issues I hear about most from constituents. In a constituency-wide survey I conducted last year, 85% of respondents supported a complete ban on the sale and use of fireworks, sending a clear message that action is needed.

Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

RefUK, RW media, & Eurofash are plainly trying to whip up a panic about this. Any serious report must begin by explaining that Ceuta is in Africa - not mainland Spain - and 48k+ of the 50k crossers were already returned. It is frightening how many still don't know this. Please share on all socials.

Spain's prime minister has blamed trafficking gangs after about 60,000 migrants crossed into the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco. At least 57 people died during the surge, according to local media."Daily Mail and Daily Express from this weekend, with front page headlines "Ministers MUST stop the Spanish border invaders reaching UK" and "SPANISH BORDER CRISIS IS 'WAKE-UP CALL' FOR UK", respectively.

Good to see 166 MPs think electoral reform is important enough to be the BIGGEST amendment since the general election #UKPolitics

💥 THIS IS HUGE! The electoral reform amendment tabled by @alexsobel.co.uk is now the single biggest amendment since the general election. 166 MPs from 8 parties have added their names - a quarter of the House of Commons. The system isn't working and the new PM needs to make this a priority.

Today I took part in the 10th and final #RunForJo In 2016, Jo Cox was tragically killed while doing the job she loved. Ten years on, it feels more important than ever that we come together to remember Jo, her values, and her enduring message: “There is more in common than that which divides us.”

A group of parliamentary colleagues, including Simon Lightwood MP, pose together after completing the final Run for Jo event. The group stands smiling inside a large purple photo frame displaying the message “We’ve got More In Common,” referencing Jo Cox’s famous words. Several participants wear running kit, race medals, and bib numbers, while others are dressed casually. The photo is taken outdoors on a sunny day, with green grass, trees, and blue skies in the background, celebrating community, friendship, and Jo Cox’s legacy of unity and bringing people together.

🚨 It’s too close to call in Makerfield! Help us to mobilise the progressive vote in these final few days. Result from @opiniumresearch.bsky.social's survey of local voters: 🌹 Burnham (Labour): 46% ➡️ Kenyon (Reform UK): 41% The rest: trailing well behind. 5pt gap. Margin of error: ~5pts. It's tight.

60% of the British public agree: our voting system is not fit for purpose. The upcoming Elections Bill is a chance to fix it. I just signed a @makevotesmatter.bsky.social petition to the Democracy Minister, calling for Proportional Representation. Add your name: actionnetwork.org/petitions/pe...
