According to MIT News, Margaret Hamilton died at the age of 90. "A profoundly influential computer scientist best known for leading the software engineering team at MIT’s Instrumentation Lab during NASA’s Apollo program". This famous photo 🔽 inspired the For All Mankind character Margo Madison.

Margaret Hamilton, but the famous 1969 photo that inspired the For All Mankind character Margo Madison is in the quoted post.

ah damn, RIP Margaret Hamilton. she took safety-critical software engineering seriously, and got people to the moon and back. news.mit.edu/2026/margare...

main post: genuinely important topic the comments: - "This Is Bad 😭 Why Isn't Anyone Doing Anything 😡😡" - terminally online take - reaction jpeg that looks like it was ripped from FB - toxic response that puts IG/YT comment section to shame - bot comment - troll comment - (1) genuine human response

Still figuring out how to navigate Bluesky btw. There are a lot of genuinely good discussions but there's also a lot of bots/trolls and reactionaries, aka the type of interactions that drove me away from Twitter and Threads. Also social media in general is exhausting. 🫠

This Banned Books Week and beyond, we at Libro are committed to fighting for the freedom to read. We work closely with organizers, fight legal challenges, raise awareness, and activate our community. How can you join us? ⬇️

How to celebrate Banned Books Week: -read a banned book -buy a 'human-authored' cert. book -donate to a local library -donate to a literacy program (eg Nerds For Literacy) -don't fall for old discourse like, "Should we ban Twilight bc it's written by a Mormon?" censorship never works in your favor.

I know most of you guys don't go on the other app but the pope posted an anti AI/ pro artists statement yesterday, and the ensuing cope and memes is really funny

Pope Leo XIV
@Pontifex

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.2016: I will never fight a holy war

2019: Pope Leo I am ready launch me towards the nearest data centersome AI guy saying he makes christian children's books with AI asking the pope if that is ok then and someone posting a meme react with the pope holding a baseball bat saying 'did I stutter'

#NASARoman’s fine-guidance system, which allows the observatory to lock very steadily onto its targets during observations, passed a spate of tests from Sept. 15 to 21. Then on Sept. 22, the mission’s Coronagraph Instrument opened its eyes to cosmic light for the very first time.

Congrats to Backpack for winning Fat Bear Week! Still wish it was 910 (she seemed to be winning until the last second) but Backpack was my other choice so I'm celebrating either way! 🐻🍣

Gravitate is not only 100% funded, but has unlocked the first stretch goal and is halfway to the second! Adding a map is the third stretch goal (at $8.5k) and I LOVE maps, so please join Courtney's Kickstarter so I can get a map with my book!! 🗺️ #booksky www.kickstarter.com/projects/cou...

I am excited for people to properly experience it all. I am excited for Destiny's true story coming back, available for everyone outside of a cutscene movie. But I need justice for the devs we lost and got us to this point. I'm happy, but I am so, /so/ scorned and reluctant.
