One of the many consequences of ppl not having a proper mental timeline of arcade games is that they miss the fact that arcades had a sort of "retro revival" wave of their own in the 90s via stuff like Namco's Arrangement games, Gradius 4, etc. similar to what we got with Megaman 9

1cc #916: Captain Commando. Played for the 2026 Summer Yolympics - although my clear came a day too late to count for the tournament. A very fun, colorful and cartoonish game. Not so difficult once you know some of the tricks, like the throw loop on the final boss.
Been getting this type of stuff done, hopefully between all the character moveset demos I won't have to make much of a beat em up fundies tutorial
Depends on whether or not the games invalide credit feeding like via Final Fight's 1cc ending, CAVE's 2nd loops/TLBs or score resets/leaderboard disqualification. So usually no but sometimes yes
“Larping” being the new big word, you see people throw it around over really funny shit. I saw someone get accused of “larping” about Zelda. No one needs to larp over Zelda, bro.
the opportunity cost of enjoying one hobby being that you can't spend that time on a different hobby is so fucked up, someone needs to fix that so I can have infinite hobby time.
It makes people think about game skill as something more like talent, it makes them doubt their own ability to improve and stops them from engaging with games they might have otherwise, or on the other end it makes ppl over-focus on carryover skills and become entitled to getting *those* tested
One of the most consistently damaging thought patterns among players is treating skill level as static and games as exams rather than something more like instruments. You walk in with whatever skills you had, you get tested & graded and you walk out. It leads to *a lot* of negative trends
Gamers will be like "play the ACTUAL GAME not the main campaign" and point you to a shitty side mode that was made in an hour on lunch break or a random cheevo
The REAL, TRUE GAME is this one modifier they added 8 months after release that disables 60% of the game's mechanics
all i had to do was walk into the elevator after the red door and leave the building...
after all this time, this game still keeps finding new ways to kill me
this shit is actually fucking criminal
Just got back to back 1CC’s for Easy and Normal in Wild Guns Reloaded! (I’ll just upload the Hard clear cos the difference between these modes isn’t substantial)
You know I've seen so much stuff happen in Final Fight that somehow I watched and immediately understood what happened here and it didn't surprise me even a little in spite of never having seen it happen before in my life.
Another one for the books! This run was a fair bit messier than I’d have liked but sometimes those 1CC’s are the most satisfying to see out. After two days and around 8ish hours of practise I’ve got my clear for Eschatos [Normal, Original]. youtu.be/so0pu5QSGs0?...

In playing so much final fight I’ve come to the conclusion that a fantastic arcade title isn’t really adjacent to it being intuitive or easy to 1cc but rather how much it makes that gradient of improvement really clear and how much credits that ends up costing you
Learned that if you get Andore to line up with you at the top of the Z Axis he gives up using the charge attack more often than not which broke my brain. It doesn't outright prevent it but it adds so much consistency to this enemy. I tested this across multiple stages
People who view lowering execution barriers as a way to create intentionality need to consider the other side of the coin - execution requirements, at least up to a certain point, is a way to build intentionality & avoid making things too intuitive & thus automatic
guy seeing two people he follows playing final fight voice: the final fight renaissance is in full swing
Just made it to stage 4 of FINAL FIGHT on one credit (and played it for the first time). Holy cow, big strides in progress the last few days. Once I get that double Andore fight more consistent and figure out how to control those big crowds better stage 3's really not gonna be too big of a problem.
i keep losing in footsies to 1983 videogame enemies. apparently crouching at me menacingly is all it takes to make me jump...
you tell someone that you feel like something you like is losing its identity to appeal to a broader audience and they start talking to you like a shareholder
I cleared Eden's Eclipse Original mode on just one credit! Full run in the replies! It took me 21.3 hours. I think it was a great introduction to bullet hell. I was pulled in super hard! It was such a blast and I'm excited for Hell mode next! #Edens_Eclipse #Original #1CC
www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM0h... Jermanator made a guide + 1cc commentary on Captain Commando, check it out! I hopped on to talk about beat em ups more broadly & contrast it with Captain Commando (which I don't have as much experience with)
