House arrest is still a form of incarceration. Neither the Canadian nor American governments have rectified the wrongs they committed against Peltier & his community. But as Peltier himself has said, house arrest is a million times better than what he was living in (prison).

This morning, Leonard Peltier was released from over 49 years of wrongful incarceration. Peltier is an enrolled citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and will reside on his Tribal homelands in North Dakota.

If elections severely distort your sense of the world around you and you can't see populations beyond exit polls and voter maps, more serious political education is necessary. Outside electoralism and the state, a whole universe of struggles, strategies, and methods exists.

Activists in tenant unions + rapid response networks supported working-class people in #Colorado targeted by militarized #ICE raids. Agents used flash-bang grenades and went door-to-door at an apartment complex asking people for their IDs. The raid was spurred by far-Right conspiracy theories.

I’m at Leetsdale and Oneida at the Cedar Run Apt complex ICE has raided this morning. Activists are out here on bullhorns saying majority of CO stand with their immigrant neighbors as federal agents pace the neighborhood @denverpost.com

Unpopular opinion, but people thinking Mexican and Cdn govts played Trump by agreeing to what was already in place (border securitization) are misreading ideological dimension of far right rise Anti migrant racism is cross party, but openly conceding it here entrenches it as "common sense" racism.

ICE went to the home of a 61-year-old man with poor health and after his family informed ICE agents that they needed a warrant signed by a judge, dozens of ICE agents instead showed up in an armored vehicle with a battering ram and flash grenades and took him by force.

trade war btwn imperialist allies (US & Canada) is means to use economic nationalism to rally behind otherwise status-quo. struggle between 'foreign' & 'domestic' capital maintains capitalism, hurts ppl through price gouging, reinforces racist nationalism & intensifies extraction on Indigenous lands

I know not everyone is here in a news-gathering capacity, but news-sharing is serving that function. Here's some stuff I try never to do unless there's huge urgency and I know the story: 1. Posting/reposting screencaps of news stories, without a link. URLS are not suppressed here! Don't do it.

one of key functions of immigration raids & crackdowns is not to actually deport all migrants/refugees but to deepen conditions of social precarity & labor deportability. to make migrants more vulnerable to exploitation from bosses & landlords & banks, and to create scapegoats for austerity policies

Already there are wannabe local influencers here in Chicago making all-caps posts about ICE raids in neighborhood Facebook groups because their friend saw an unmarked cop car somewhere and they consider that evidence enough to growth-hack off of people's fear. Listen to trusted orgs, not randos.

this is about protests, but i’m going to use it to talk about protecting people from ICE. join a group, get alerts, show up, and literally get in the way. it’s not as scary as it sounds, and ICE raids are only going to increase, so better get a feel for how these actions work sooner than later.

This is enforced disappearance, which is a violation of international human rights law (and can be a violation of international criminal law). Anyone held in government custody when the gov refuses to confirm their whereabouts is a victim.

I am increasingly concerned about the expanded use of enforced disappearance against migrants, in particular, in the US. It is is a well documented practice in BP custody, but I'm seeing more reports from lawyers in listservs and on social media that they cannot confirm their clients whereabouts.

Germany & Israel are in the same camp. This thread confuses some kind of revolutionary defeatism w/ campism. The anarchist Malatesta advocated a kind of revolutionary defeatism before Liebknecht or Lenin did. For anarchists, the *main* enemy being at home doesn't equal the *only* enemy being at home

If Israel is a case study in nationalism of the oppressed being so single-minded it turned them into oppressors, the antideutsch are a case study in how the "focus on fighting your own nation" campist prescription led them to champion the US and Israel as an axis of resistance to German nationalism.

Mass student strike happening in #Montreal at Concordia university. After a vote, students have voted to go on strike to demand divestment from the state of Israel by the university. In the 1980s, similar struggles helped push for divestment from apartheid South Africa.

They filled the lobby before marching to every floor, disrupting classes. Behind them, boarded up windows can be seen. These were smashed during a demo in late September that reportedly caused $600,000 in damages to the university, which has refused to divest from Israeli apartheid and genocide.

Obama and Biden had way more success stimulating fossil fuel production than entrenching green energy. They both gambled that supporting fossil fuels was politically necessary to sustain the green transition. And they both handed power to Trump. We have to learn from these failures.

there is no way to dismantle fossil capitalism at a global scale without tackling the position of the Gulf states in the global economy, which are connected to the role of Israel and the US in the region and in the global order.

I'm sorry but 1.5c is dead. It's over. Climate politics today is about mitigating runaway heating and ecological decline, while those with the levers of power -states and capital- push on the accelerator. This is why we must build new forms of popular power. www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/a...
