It is really remarkable that in a time of historic impasse in Congress, with both houses have been reduced to complete standstills despite a mounting number of political, economic, and ethical crises, both parties have spent months working to pass a bill limiting the pay of college athletes

Interesting to me that no polling data has been released or leaked from the gubernatorial campaigns (or if it has, I haven't seen it). I would guess this is for two reasons: 1) JKT's data shows that he is winning, and they don't want to spur the AKGOP into aggressive action and 2) the Republican...

Nashville International Airport is set to be renamed to honor Dolly Parton after a unanimous vote by the local airport authority. Once the effort clears all the hurdles, it will make Nashville one of the few major cities in the U.S. with an airport named after a woman. trib.al/feFqYJV

This is particularly harmful in rural Alaska, where the incidence of diesel trucks and machinery is much higher than in most cities. A bunch of my friends' fishermen dads had diesel trucks growing up. I honestly think that Sullivan is going to lose, and Iran-War-driven fuel price increases are why.

BREAKING: U.S. diesel fuel prices just hit another record this morning — soaring past $6 a gallon.

Dan Sullivan changes his tune on Alaska’s $5 gas now that Trump’s president Sullivan made a big scene over $5 gas under Biden back in 2022. With gas crossing the $5 mark again, he's been thanking Trump officials: "You’re doing such a great job for our state, for our country." #akelect

Sullivan made a big scene over $5 gas under Biden, complete with an "I did that!" sticker. Under Trump, $5 gas is just an opportunity to drill, baby, drill.

Perhaps an all-time Friday news dump: GOP former Attorney General Treg "I Don't Have to Fill Out My Financial Disclosures" Taylor is BACK IN THE RACE for governor! At 10:15, Lt. Gov. Dahlstrom (R) says the Department of Law's "independent" review says she has to let Treg off the hook. #akelect

Lieutenant Governor Dahlstrom Will Certify Nominations of Treg Taylor and Jose Tagle

September 4, 2026

Today Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom announced that the Division of Elections will certify Treg Taylor’s nomination for Governor and Jose Tagle’s nomination for State Representative for District 22.

On August 31, the Lieutenant Governor announced that she would not certify those nominations after the Alaska Public Offices Commission recommended against certification under 2 AAC 50.850(h). The Department of Law has since provided this office with an initial, independent review of candidates’ public official financial disclosure statements. That informal review identified numerous potential discrepancies between filed statements and public records. The department stated that the review is preliminary and is not a determination that any specific candidate violated AS 39.50.

On the basis of that additional information, the Lieutenant Governor will certify the two candidates.

“The Department of Law’s informal review has raised questions about the recommendations made on August 31,” said Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom. “I will not withhold certification from two candidates on recommendations that, in light of this additional information, I cannot apply with confidence across the field of candidates. Certification decisions have to rest on a process that can be defended as to every candidate.”

The department provided an initial working draft of the same information to the Commission on Thursday evening. The Commission has not acted to reconsider its recommendations despite the need to finalize the ballots. The Division of Elections will now update the certified list of candidates, including the governor and lieutenant governor pairing under AS 15.25.100.

I love Dolly, but one of the great dissappointments of my adult life was realizing that most jobs these days don't actually have you work "9 to 5." It's 8 to 5, with a "lunch break" that rarely goes a full hour. Felt like false advertising.

Tim Curry was an icon. Any time he showed up on a film or show, he was always a treat and he made a lot of animated projects special. Hearing of his death at 80 really has me heartbroken. God, I’m really gutted.
