It has always been true that only a fraction of the readership reads long pieces. Or reads past the jump, as they used to say in the newspaper biz. The ones who read it all are called "readers." And they are more likely to subscribe to the publication and/or become lifelong fans of the writer.

I am impeaching Secretary Kristi Noem, who is an incompetent leader and a disgrace to our democracy. She wreaked havoc in the Chicagoland area and has brought her reign of terror to Minneapolis. One of her rogue ICE agents shot and killed an innocent woman today. It must come to an end.
The “prosecute the former regime at every level” candidate has my vote in 2028.

Is every university's AI "taskforce" in reality a naked boosterism committee like mine. Rarely felt so demoralized by the mismatch of what I thought Higher Ed stood for and what I see endorsed and accepted (and, far worse, ommitted!) in these reports, surveys, guidelines, etc. Pathetic.
The way all of these people convinced themselves that Mamdani is antisemitic is a subject far more worthy of media examination than any of the ‘groupthink on campuses!’ thinkpieces we’ve been subjected to

Kim Weeden@weedenkim.bsky.social · 11mo agoI agree but this case is even worse: it appears that the detailed course description* explicitly mentions that it will explore how gender and sexuality are depicted in YA literature. *As the reddit poster mentions, there's some confusion and possible misreporting of which course she's teaching.
The stuff Jeffrey Epstein’s friends felt comfortable saying and drawing in grotesque detail with their names attached knowing they would not face consequences is the kind of thing I think of when I think about rape culture and how sexual violence against girls and young women is actually glorified
