I tried to spend the equivalent of Trump’s proposed military budget. Globally, I eliminated hunger & extreme poverty; in the US, I ended homelessness, covered the uninsured, installed universal pre-K, sent another round of $600 checks, & powered 50% of households with solar. I have $77B left over.

What $1.5 trillion for the Pentagon could fund instead. This column chart compares the $1.504 trillion requested military budget for 2027 against a set of alternatives. There is essentially NO evidence that rent control discourages construction. No study-NONE-has shown that rent control reduces housing supply. No study has found a causal link between rent control & reduction in construction. Studies that look at repeal of rent control don't find more construction.
