Welcome to polycrisis. Add to what the article describes: Aging infrastructure (water main break+sinkhole=floods in West Hollywood that LA first responders have to address as new wildfires break out) Mismanagement of emergency response agencies (e.g. FEMA, new Wildland Fire Service) & contractors

New: The US is suffering multiple climate-driven disasters this week - wildfire smoke, heat waves, flooding. These "compound events" are likely to become increasingly common, stressing emergency response amid Trump budget cuts. With @zhirji.bsky.social Free link. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Went to go type in "you" in the search bar and it automatically populated with Youri Tielemans, a man I have never googled in my life but now love ardently (no I was not rooting for the US last night)

If you live in pittsburgh and don't know anything about the TRID that's probably intentional there's a proposal before city council TOMORROW for the city to BORROW MONEY against the next 40 years' *anticipated* tax revenue, thus putting all of us on the hook to pay it back with interest 1/

I bought a printer to print pages. It is trying to sell me bread and timeshares. My printer has its own TikTok. My printer is legally registered to vote in Nevada. My printer just flipped a house in Tucson. Yesterday, my printer printed out my novel. It was gibberish I hadn't written.

Emily has done a tremendous amount to shape the landscape of modern horror publishing, both through her brilliant critical work and her staggeringly thorough monthly cataloguing of upcoming horror novels. Mark my words, this is going to be fucking tremendous.

This is a VERY different situation from PA when Fetterman was first running because there Black folks were warning everyone about him. Here, they are telling people that Platner is the better option given what the alternatives have been and who has a chance of winning. This is important data.

I also think it's a testament to writers not considering community building with other writers as being a necessary part of their work, which I always contend that it is. A few reliable writer friends who know your voice, craft, and intentions > any LLM.

These problems are very real but I wonder how many "slop writers" it applies too. Many seem to be people who would not be writing otherwise and/or would not be the type of writers who would have gotten arts funding. And another portion seem to be very established writers with plenty of means.
