The headlines are still covering the cyclosporiasis outbreak from lettuce, but let's talk about a different summer, long ago. The headlines in Bavaria would have called it "summer diarrhea" & it was killing babies. Enter our hero, Professor Theodor Escherich of the Julius Hospital, Würzburg.

Back home. The fires are not fully contained yet, but what will stay with me is the solidarity, for the firefighters and for everyone who was evacuated and suddenly found themselves with nothing. Happy to se that the word “fraternité” in our motto still means something.

Today is going to be decisive. After two relatively stable nights, the fire is going to be reactivated by the wind and heatwave. Very much impressed by the strength and dedication of our firemen/women!!!

For scale, the burnt zone now runs from Lacanau near the coast to Marcheprime, at the gates of Bordeaux. About 40 km, close to an hour by road. And it is still strong and moving southeast, straight towards the southwestern suburbs of the city.

Four years after the megafires at La Teste and Landiras, Gironde is burning again. So far, 3,400 hectares between Saumos and Le Porge, around 20,000 people evacuated. All my thoughts to those directly affected, and huge admiration and thanks to our firefighters. Real heroes.

🔥My first (co)first-author paper is out🔥 The surfaces of Gram+ and Gram- bacteria are markedly different from each other. How are phages equipped to breach the Gram+ envelope❓ 💡We report a baseplate structure uniquely adapted to infect Gram+ S. aureus. A 🧵⬇️ 1/8 #phagesky #cryoEM 🧪

Va-t-on enfin réagir ?
