I'm a pretty boring middle aged gay man that loves reading, musical theater, and Star Trek.

I just finished Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. What a wonderful book. It was difficult because the main character is a teenage shit head but it's so amazing getting to see all his messy thoughts and not quite sure how to be a functioning human. #booksky

Catcher in the Rye cover. The main character has a red hunting hat with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth and smoke from the cigarette turning into birds over his head

I just finished Jurassic Park. It was excellent. I love getting to compare a book to its movie. The characters were so different and more complex in this one. It really wasn't afraid to make you dislike them.

The Jurassic Park book cover by Michael Crichtonwith a white background and a black silhouette of a T Rex.

I just finished the 7th book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. This series is very fun but hoo boy, this book was SO long. I read a lot but I'm not very fast and this one just kept on going. I'll of course finish the series but I'm ready for a break. #booksky

100% agree. Ironically, this is the only version of "broken windows" that actually makes any sense, because it has to do with the individual behavior of one person going from getting away with small crimes to getting away with big crimes, instead of being some vague theory about general contagion.

My hottest take is that letting cops park in red zones for mundane errands and coffee breaks; I think “you can break the law at your discretion as a job perk” is the small domino that ends in the large domino of “shooting protesters in the face with rubber bullets”

"Even a wounded world is feeding us. Even a wounded world holds us, giving us moments of wonder and joy. I choose joy over despair. Not because I have my head in the sand, but because joy is what the earth gives me daily and I must return the gift." (Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass)

Mr Lover, a handsome orange and white tabby cat, standing outside and wearing a blue harness. He looks outwards and upwards, his amber eyes wide and pupils small. His ears and whiskers point in the same direction, and his mouth is very slightly open.

if you are a cis person it costs you nothing to just say today that you see & hear your trans sisters & brothers & others over in the UK today -- and around the world, too, knowing that rulings like today's ripple out in ugly ways.

OK, gonna throw this spicy bomb out there. If you're fortunate enough to have disposable income, then right now it is your duty to use that income wisely. You have agency over how you spend it and you should own how you spend it. Your decisions do, in fact, affect stock prices of big corporations.

The people who want to push trans people out of public life, people of color out of neighborhoods, refugees and immigrants deported, and ban media about any of us are really concerned you might be stuck in an echo chamber 🙄
