Actually, one more - I feel like I should say this directly, so here goes. In the 90s and 00s, the groups I remember pursuing this strategy (hyperpublicize mugshots, Black crime statistics, etc) were Stormfront, the Klan, etc. Now it's the New York Times and the Telegraph. That is the story here.
Plenty to reflect about re: the Arday affair, but I'm going to repeat this one thing. The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. I've been calling it "Trojan horse propaganda", let's go with that. 1/

insane how durable FTP and HTTP have been, fucking rock star protocols, man
far too often, writers in games have waaaaaaaay less say in what a game's story ends up being than you probably think they do. it would probably shock the average person how often that amount is "next to nothing, aside from a couple cool small bits they were able to sneak in or fight for"
What’s a thing from your area of expertise (or special interest) that you think it would behoove everyone else to know?
if i ask you for comment and you send me something "on background" I am assuming that means it is information you are allowing me to use in an article, just not to directly quote.
Have to reshare this every time I see it. Raymond Chandler mocking science fiction in 1953 and sounding cool as hell. He should have written some space stories.
Why do I have a horrible feeling that they shut them instead of releasing them so they use it as a tax break or a reduction in income also for tax dodging purposes.
Stop shutting studios, start “releasing” them - give the team the IP and let them use their notice period to find investment.

"from Zamiatin to Lem... when science fiction uses its limitless range of symbol and metaphor novelistically, with the subject at the center, it can show us who we are, and where we are, and what choices face us, with unsurpassed clarity, and with a great and troubling beauty.” (Le Guin, of course.)

Thought I’d miss the eclipse because of tree cover: tree based camera obscura!
Recognition that, living in Western society, we are already heavily morally compromised and we have to make decisions about where and how we can afford to push for purity. ✅
…I took the Amazon money to make a feminist TV show. I make an iPhone app that helps people get more exercise. I am a bit dubious of demands for purity in platforms/services, I think it tends to hamstring the good people while letting the awful ones take advantage of whatever tech they like.

this morning I saw some Nazis lamenting that the Twitter algorithm has worked out they are Nazis and therefore is showing them lots of Jewish and Black content, to keep them on the platform. I really value being smacked awake, you know?
this video went semi viral on ig, thx bsky for helping me workshop it www.instagram.com/reel/DbwQRs2...
Oh hey! It's apparently the 10 year anniversary of the launch of No Man's Sky today! Though we didn't actually get the PC build uploaded until midnight so I always kind of counted it as launching on the 10th (my birthday).
Ugh. I really wish my ADHD titration would hurry up and arrive. I'm trying to do the impossibly bureaucratic Greek citizenship stuff for me, my siblings, and all our kids, none of whom are born in wedlock, which means... paperwork. Celibacy, marriage, birth certificates. Apostiled. Translated.
I keep on imagining folks at the time critiquing "Homer"'s version of the pre-existing story he's nailed down from oral tradition, his choices, and how much it clearly missed the point and doesn't understand it.
Using automation means you don't care is just basically the funniest shit in the whole world to me to hear a bunch of computer professionals today.
Regardless of how your feel about genAI, it does make me sad to see some folks go all the way to "unless you're doing everything from scratch by hand you're bad." Not doing laborious work is great! Getting the same result faster and with less effort is great! That doesn't *have* to mean genAI.

Little smidgen of good news tomorrow on the film front… my lord making indie films takes some outrageous patience! 😅❤️
Watching my partner play First Light is like watching a Bond movie where Bond occasionally dies mid-climactic fight scene or sometimes has trouble going up a ladder
