Science is hard, we should all work hard to do it better, & we should all help each other (also) with methodological developments and tutorials. However, this is an endless endeavor with no one solution. To translate a collective tentative striving into one normative framework seems disingenuous
Berna Devezer@devezer.bsky.social · 2d agoi've read from many that "gold standard science" sounds good in principle and that could not be farther from my truth. there is no such thing, there cannot be such a thing, and the sheer thought that it could actually be a good idea betrays a complete ignorance about science and scholarship.
This is how zombie statistics are born. It's tempting to speculate but best not to. Even research that tries to come up with estimates is often pretty bad because it's very difficult to accurately measure these things, let alone vibe about them.

Spending more money in schools works. It takes *a lot* of time, but it raises wages and GDP per capita around 30 yrs later, just as we should expect

Do non-human primates have theory of mind? My new paper takes a new computational approach to this classic question. We implemented verbal theories of primates' mental representations as computational models. These models completed classic visual perspective-taking tasks.

Asheesh Kapur Siddique@asheeshks.org · 2w agoWe know how to teach books in the age of AI: small classes, close reading, research-engaged learning (which is how you ’let students see you struggle’). The issue is nobody will hire and pay the requisite # of faculty to offer this.
One of the things I find most fascinating in mathematical/computational thinking is the borrowing and development of model components from other domains. I need to model how different coders annotate a corpus? It's like occupancy models in ecology, with some twists! 1/
