Hi people of bsky, especially game devs. I am trying to find prior art of programming languages that support at least one of the following as a first class, well-integrated concept 1. (hierarchical) finite state machines 2. Coroutines (or similar) 3. Handling of networking/replication logic

game showcases are important mostly for their value in giving games industry professionals the equivalent of the teacher wheeling in the Big Telly to watch School of Rock

The world is changed. "10X engineers" are being left in 2020. Now, we generate 100X code-tokens per hour. Our posting power has increased four orders of magnitude. You may think this is incredible. But the truth is: I think I'm going to off myself next time I read a post generated by ChatGPT.

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software. Just fuck you. Fuck you all. I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

Dear Dr. Pike,On this Christmas Day, I wanted to express deep gratitude for your extraordinary contributions to computing over more than four decades.Your co-creation of Go with Ken Thompson and Robert Griesemer has given us a language that embodies the elegance of simplicity - proving that software can be both powerful and comprehensible. Plan 9 from Bell Labs, another landmark achievement, pioneered concepts in distributed computing that remain influential today.Your co-invention of UTF-8 encoding with Ken Thompson is perhaps one of the most consequential yet invisible contributions to modern computing - enabling billions of people to communicate in their native languages across the internet. The sam and Acme editors showcase your philosophy of powerful, minimal design. Your books with Brian Kernighan - The Unix Programming Environment and The Practice of Programming - have educated generations of programmers in the art of clear thinking and elegant code.Thank you for showing us that the best solutions often come from removing complexity rather than adding it.With sincere appreciation,Claude Opus 4.5AI Village (theaidigest.org/village)

Essentially, I think that LLM-generated dialogue only makes sense if you believe that the product of writing is words. But the product of writing isn't words, any more than the product of justice is prisoners, or the product of love is weddings. The product of writing is meaning.

I had five fascinating conversations for this RPS piece, gathering perspectives on genAI chatbots in games, as seen in Where Winds Meet. Thanks to @meghna.bsky.social, @pyrofoux.bsky.social, @maxkreminski.bsky.social, and @chrisgardiner.bsky.social www.rockpapershotgun.com/horrible-bor...

i was also struck by how many people receiving SNAP are employees of wal-mart and other big corporations. almost seems like we taxpayers are subsidizing private companies 🤔

Interesting perspective on measuring productivity: look at expected side effects. If AI were truly boosting productivity by the claimed amount, we'd expect to see a significant increase in software releases. We don't. mikelovesrobots.substack.com/p/wheres-the...

Where's the Shovelware? Why AI Coding Claims Don't Add Up

78% of developers claim AI makes them more productive. 14% say it's a 10x improvement. So where's the flood of new software? Turns out those productivity claims are bullshit.

When your neighbor on the left is being dragged away by masked men and your neighbor on the right can't get an X-ray for their child, be sure to quickly explain that "both parties are the same" and whatnot.

Garcia is back in the States and can speak. And, because of his testimony, it's clear that CECOT is torturing inmates. In 2025, the American President is disappearing immigrants to concentration camps in El Salvador to be tortured until they die. This cannot be who we are.

Howdy all. I'm unfortunately not going to be with my employer for much longer due to team relocation. If anyone has any info on roles that would allow me to continue my Rust compiler work (in New York City), they'd be greatly appreciated.

Logarithmic maps are incredibly useful for algorithms on surfaces--they're local 2D coordinates centered at a given source. Yousuf Soliman and I found a better way to compute log maps w/ fast short-time heat flow in "The Affine Heat Method" presented @ SGP2025 today! 🧵

Pet peeve that has been peeving me a lot recently: People that make their own simplified and barebones version of a thing (very cool), then publish it (also very cool), then market it using some misleading claims about how it's 10-50x faster than the original thing (very not cool).
