A lot of folks on social media and in the Politics as Fandom zone talk about elections and stages in the political cycle like they're units of pop culture that can be rehashed and reopened and debated and woven together. It drives folks nuts. Elections are races and circuses and choir competitions.

Political victories aren't secured by debating old races or proving yourself right. They are about numbers. Which in turn means they're about organizing and momentum and swallowing your pride and chipping in to help the side seem more appealing and easy to support. Not polishing your own reputation.

It really starts to reveal that Neoliberals find comfort in fleeing from personally held positions they feel aren't morally acceptable or reflect poorly on themselves and instead hide behind numbers and manufactured public sentiment in order to escape blame or judgment.
It's just ceaseless attempts at ideology-free strategizing using polls or ignoring polls and never engaging with the actual nature of politics that change things, namely the need to persuade toward deeply-held beliefs. And it all smacks of hiding from actually admitting what you believe.
