I hope the ppl of Tennessee start looking past the idea that republicans have their back that they have their best interests in mind! They don’t they will lie to your face and turn around and do the opposite of what they promised every time! These red states better wake up‼️

the women we study: jerri green — The Veritas Edit
There is a particular kind of political candidate that Tennessee has seen before: the one who runs because the opportunity presented itself, because the timing felt right, because the donor network wa...

The NYT games accept Rani as a word but not Raja. Imam but not Virgo. Both Mama and Mamma but only Nana, not Nanna. There are a million of these spots where I can find no internal consistency or governing rule and it's driving me NUTS
Are you guys following the Tennessee gubernatorial? Not enough people are. Looking at primary turnout and some wild shifts left, the current chief defender of Shelby County may actually have a shot to become governor of the state. Blue Tennessee. Worth checking out. youtu.be/p8uo718P1JE

I was really enjoying watching this game tonight, but then I remembered that I bring incredibly bad basketball luck so I left about 20 minutes ago and everyone in New York can feel free to thank me now

I know Calvin’s dad is already having a moment, but every terrible “outsource precious and fleeting moments with your children to tech so that you can spend more time on your work” pitch makes me think of that one strip I never really cared about as a kid, but care a lot about as an adult.
“The feature uses a combination of bedtime stories, relaxing sounds, and guided meditations along with scheduling and customization options accessible only to adults.”
Don't mind me I'll just be watching world cup videos and crying bc it's so moving to me that the world came here in spite of how we are. And they're finding things to love, too. Not in our fancy coastal cities but in Kansas and Alabama and all their videos are SO BEAUTIFUL
(person who doesn't understand how counting works) THE WAR IS UPON US
Can you imagine being so mired in the nonsense of rightwing BS—and so goddamn stupid—that you call for people to die over [checks notes] reality TV idiot Spencer Pratt coming in third in an LA mayoral election? What D-U-M-[another letter] times we live in.
The gap is never widening or closing. When the last vote is cast, the gap IS. Everything else is just the procedure of revealing it. A procedure that often correlates with partisan ID in a way that all-too-perfectly aligns w those most likely to buy into stupid conspiracy theories.

Take a break from doomscrolling for me to tell you about how the theft crimes you hear about are literally the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what is actually being stolen and by whom.
Notable that when Judge April Perry scheduled today's hearing in the Broadview 6 case, she told the feds to bring unredacted transcripts showing how the law in the case was described to the grand jury. By dropping the conspiracy count, the feds avoided sharing them: bsky.app/profile/jons...
#BREAKING Federal prosecutors in Chicago say they are dismissing the conspiracy count against the remaining members of the Broadview Six.
SCOTUS decision isn’t just about maps. It’s about who has power. Our focus must be on state/local races not just federal ones. It’s the state legislature that draws the maps. Electing Dems will help ensure that the maps will be drawn fairly & that every minority group will have their voices heard.
I am very interested to see whether concerns over AIPAC ties will trickle out from feds to local electeds (this article about a CA prosecutor really caused me to think about that) boltsmag.org/stanford-san...

Having an opportunity to share the perils---but also the amazing, evidence-based paths forward!---within the criminal courts system is a huge privilege. I'm so grateful to my alma mater for this coverage!

Surveillance technology is largely a money pit full of really toxic illusions
An alert from Denver’s ShotSpotter gunshot-detection system prompted police to swarm a Montbello woman’s 70th birthday party with guns drawn and detain Black partygoers for close to an hour — even though the alert was 20 minutes old, for a neighboring address and was likely triggered by fireworks
This was an amazing night and I'm so grateful for the heroic defenders of Houston!
THANK YOU to all who attended this discussion at Brazos Bookstore with Author @galvinalmanza.bsky.social of ‘The Price of Mercy’. Chief Draper opened the event saying “to the defenders in the room… I firmly believe that we are … the heroes in this movement.” #publicdefense #justiceforall
Every day I write about crime and curse under my breath, dammit, Leo, what are you DOING
you know, Donald Trump has a point. whenever a robbery, murder, mass shooting, or just a simple pickpocket situation happens, I immediately think “this would never have happened if Pope Leo just did his job”
Like imagine your grandpa said “the pope is weak on crime” at dinner.
Pope Leo is weak on crime is one of the craziest sentences I’ve ever read.
What an embarrassing loser
Potentially a huge boost to a more unified, more smoothly functioning EU
What do you call the opposite of charisma? Revulsmo?
no one is doing it like jd vance, a loser across three continents in a single weekend
Looking for that same amazing Vance Effect right here at home in November
