This is at least the fourth person with diabetes to die in ICE custody just this year. Many more have been hospitalized and/or reported starving themselves so they wouldn’t die after being denied care. Is anyone aware of any litigation specific to immigrants with diabetes?

A 56-year-old Mexican man held at a federal immigration facility in Laredo was found dead in his cell Saturday morning. His family says the center would not give him medicine for diabetes, high blood pressure and a heart condition. He is the 7th person to die in ICE custody in Texas this year.

When you casually link in your piece to a Manhattan Institute tweet that compares test scores and funding between PS 307 and Community Roots charter while purposefully omitting how vastly different their student populations are, then you are actively misinforming your readers 👎🏻

Black parents said Hannah-Jones’ essay illustrates the Catch-22 they’ve encountered: If they choose a school with a better academic reputation and a higher share of white students, will that come at the expense of their child’s emotional well-being?

More from the training for the NYC CEC Antidiscrimination and Antiharassment Policy (Reg D210). In 2023 the FACE Dep Chancellor told me D210 was “an unfunded mandate inherited from the previous administration.” This training seems more about limiting DOE liability than protecting students/families.

This AI slop is from the required training module for the NYC Citywide and Community Education Council Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy (Chancellor’s Regulation D-210). John Davis’s name plaque is facing backwards and both of the women on the left are named “Maria Garcia."

🧵 Let's talk about the backstory here, which you can also read about in my book. Bergtraum was 1 of 8 new selective citywide career-themed HS opened between 1969-82. 8 new schools doesn't sound like a lot, but at the time, there were 86 HS in NYC & new schs recruited from the whole city. 1/12

the scarcity loop: how school choice reshapes the rationing of public education cover
Chalkbeat@chalkbeat.org · last mo.

Once a premier business high school with 3,000 students, Murry Bergtraum has shrunk to about 90 kids. Why have city leaders let the struggling NYC school stay open?

The most depressing outcome from my time as a parent leader advocating for admissions reforms to make middle and high schools more uniformly accessible was watching “nice, liberal” parents team up with rabid racists and transphobes to protect the status quo.

I’m excited to share that The Scarcity Loop: How School Choice Reshapes the Rationing of Public Education is officially out in the world. It seemed important to find a slice.

The messianic, desperate push by NYCPS employees and “parents’ rights” activists for an OpenAI/Google-controlled public high school didn’t happen by accident Moratoriums aren’t enough, the mayor needs to install much narrower guardrails for dealing with these companies, they aren’t our pals

Marcus Luther@marcusluther.bsky.social · 2mo ago

"This playbook allows the companies to shape the American education system in ways that benefit them." This is the reporting we need in education. This entire piece is essential reading. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/08/23/b...

If you think it can’t happen to you, realize that a couple of people in New York City were wined and dined and fellowed by Google and OpenAI and next thing you know it became a top, almost desperate priority of NYCPS to create an AI HS, planned and run with those firms Let’s be careful out there!
