A legend. Watch anything he did effects on (which were sometimes better than their movies!), but if you only choose one, make it SOCIETY. I think it's fair to call it his masterpiece. Rest in peace, Screaming Mad George.

I could've spent this whole episode pitching my idea of how to turn DREAMSCAPE into a TV show. I've got two season arcs in the bag, but this could run forever in the old 20+ episode model of television. It's got all the working parts. Anyways, Snakeman!

We continue our journey into Other Worlds Than These with a trip to the Land of Nod in DREAMSCAPE! Nightmare snakemen, nuclear apocalypse, zombies, laser nunchaku, a finger-bladed killer just months before Freddy Krueger hit the screen, and a thoroughly stacked cast. This certainly dreams big.

It's gonna be an awesome month and this episode was the best possible surprise start. @travisnewton.bsky.social and I went into these believing one thing and walked out very different. That's one reason I love GenreVision: it's made me appreciate more movies, including ones that don't "work."

Happy anniversary, COP LAND. One of my favorite movies I introduced to @travisnewton.bsky.social for @genrevision.com. Mangold's best by a country mile and my favorite Stallone performance after ROCKY. I hope its 30th anniversary next year means a coronation into a universally accepted classic.

*sigh* I didn't want to be the guy who likes COOL WORLD, but I guess I'm the guy who likes COOL WORLD, even though it fails at nearly all its creative goals. Yes, you're right to think that there is something wrong with me. It's gonna be a wild @genrevision.com versus episode this week.

My Letterboxd review of COOL WORLD (1992) 🧡 Even though it's busted on nearly every level — the hack rewritten script, obvious production quality issues and variations in the animation, editing rhythms, a pop-industrial club soundtrack that evokes sentient junkyard cars shoving neon tubes up each others' tailpipes, the performances that aren't Kim Basinger and voice acting legend Charlie Adler — Cool World manages that rare status of a failure that leaves me in genuine awe. It's so massive a money burn that I can't help but huff the toxic fumes and get fatally high, giggling at the many colors in the rising smoke.

Stoked that Vinegar Syndrome is putting OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN out in 4K with new extras (Weller interview!) but alas, I can't justify the cost of their discs when it's an upgrade from a Blu I already paid for. The subscribers who haven't seen it yet are in for a treat though. That movie rules.

RIP to director Chuck Russell, who you probably know most as the director of the Mask, but whose masterpiece film that you should absolutely go back and watch is his 1988 remake of The Blob. Seriously, it's a near perfect movie.
