A legend. Watch anything he did effects on (which were sometimes better than their movies!), but if you only choose one, make it SOCIETY. I think it's fair to call it his masterpiece. Rest in peace, Screaming Mad George.

Rest in peace Screaming Mad George. When you saw his name in a film's credits you always knew you were in for something wild and incredible.

Became an unexpected champion for two infamous, reviled flops that blend live-action and animation (it's our upcoming @genrevision.com versus episode!), got jazzed by the PRIMETIME trailer and watched a crucial but devastating documentary, and got joyfully covered in zombie slime. #LetterboxdFriday

My last four watched on Letterboxd

Happy #LetterboxdFriday! What's YOUR #LastFourWatched? I observed Kurt Russell's range with a hard-hitting dystopian classic and a goofy Disney sci-fi comedy, appreciated Spielberg's heights more after viewing a creative low point, & had a hair-raising time with the Stooges at a salon. #Letterboxd

Happy anniversary, COP LAND. One of my favorite movies I introduced to @travisnewton.bsky.social for @genrevision.com. Mangold's best by a country mile and my favorite Stallone performance after ROCKY. I hope its 30th anniversary next year means a coronation into a universally accepted classic.

COP LAND - still Mangold's best in a walk - was released on this day in 1997. I wrote a little love letter to it on the old site: www.flavorwire.com/609188/secon...

Oh it's gonna be a VERY wild @genrevision.com versus episode this week. COOL WORLD vs. MONKEYBONE will have champions in both corners. Look what I did to @travisnewton.bsky.social by making him watch this infamous Brendan Fraser flop. Who will be the winner? Tune in Sunday to find out!

Travis Newton's Letterboxd review of MONKEYBONE (2001)

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🧡

I've never heard anything good about this, but I'm so delighted to have finally seen Monkeybone! It's funny, gorgeous, and inventive. It's also easy to see how anyone might have found it abrasive, but I was genuinely charmed.

*sigh* I didn't want to be the guy who likes COOL WORLD, but I guess I'm the guy who likes COOL WORLD, even though it fails at nearly all its creative goals. Yes, you're right to think that there is something wrong with me. It's gonna be a wild @genrevision.com versus episode this week.

My Letterboxd review of COOL WORLD (1992)

🧡

Even though it's busted on nearly every level — the hack rewritten script, obvious production quality issues and variations in the animation, editing rhythms, a pop-industrial club soundtrack that evokes sentient junkyard cars shoving neon tubes up each others' tailpipes, the performances that aren't Kim Basinger and voice acting legend Charlie Adler — Cool World manages that rare status of a failure that leaves me in genuine awe. It's so massive a money burn that I can't help but huff the toxic fumes and get fatally high, giggling at the many colors in the rising smoke.
