It reinforces a 2 tiered system of science: the elites at a handful of places in Canada getting the lion’s share of funding, and the rest of us in country trying to keep things floating with increasingly diminishing success rates at tricouncil.

Sadly, we're entering an era that I can only describe as "#democracytheatre." In this grim performance, those in power go to great lengths to preserve the outward appearances & rituals of democracy—elections, legislative bodies, & public debates—but strip these institutions of their essence.

Without basic research, translational and applied research grind to a halt. We don't know what any given discoveries might be useful for in the future, but that doesn't mean we should limit research to studies that have a clear pathway to applicability.

Can you even call politicians public servants anymore ? They very clearly are not doing what the public wants or needs, overwhelmingly serve either their own or corporate interests and many seem to have outright disdain for the very constituents that vote them in ?

A Professor can be hounded to death by the media for alleged plagiarism but tech companies can plagiarise on a worldwide scale and they’re left alone, celebrated for their “genius”…

Shame liars out of public life; prosecute white-collar crime; regulate away all the business practices built on cheating people. Or just let society decay into incurable anomie and cynicism.

I feel like an issue that would connect well with voters would be doing anything at all to slow the current progression toward "absolutely everything now is a scam"

Vaccines are probably the most life-saving invention in history. For the past 75+ years, every effort has been toward making them *more* widely available. These rollbacks are senseless.
