A question please for cooking types @rich-bryant.uk @nicmiller.bsky.social and anyone else. How long can one actually keep flour? Well beyond the use-by date, or is that a bit critical? Asking for someone who has just emptied the deepest cupboard

Help please! My iPhone has updated over night and the stupid liquid glass thing is on again. How do I switch it off completely, please? Not just change it to lighter or darker. Many thanks in advance

Happy to sign and share. Closing radio stations seems a way of making life worse for people without any upside

Hey California! Be careful this election because the big money creeps are trying to trick you (again).

I want to hear more about the second of these writing sessions

Error type: shopping in foreign. Triturado means crushed - or in this case sieved. One to remember. It’s okay cos it was for a sauce, but …

Time for this classic again.

Anyone got any ideas what to do with almost three small heads of lettuce? We are travelling tomorrow lunchtime and have already had salad today

This is a really interesting read. Sets out clearly some of the issues in front of the world right now - and they may not be the issues we want to face

New post out: The battle over the Strait of Hormuz combined with the Houthis capturing the coast of Yemen, is putting severe strain on the global economy. We have an alarming guest post from a leading maritime expert on how bad things could get. (£/free trial) samf.substack.com/p/houthis-ho...

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

We need one of these for the UK - like yesterday

The French made a short film about what could happen after all immigrants would follow the ‘white, angry old man’s’ advice to go back where they came from.

It's amazing how often you think: someone should have proofread that. An otherwise fairly standard and boring lease but I hope no one has to rely on these provisions

There's an argument for calling them masked thugs, because that is factually true. There's an argument for calling them pathetic cosplaying loser incels, also true, and laughing at them damages their tough-guy self image and hurts recruitment. There is no argument for calling them protesters.

This is interesting. You get assigned to being born at a random place and time in history, to see what a typical person's life might have been like then. Unfortunately I was born in 1403 in the valley of Mexico and died at age 4 from dysentery.

I appear to have accidentally invented the bubble and squeak omlette. It's nicer than you might imagine, unless you hate any of the ingredients

This is fabulous! Thank you

Farage has turned Clacton into a human zoo. Here’s the truth about what’s happening here | Sarah Elizabeth Cox

When I moved to the town in 2022 I loved the beach walks, cheap drinks and panoramic coastal views. Now it feels like a never-ending circus, says historian Sarah Elizabeth Cox

If one day my voice goes quiet, Please remember how hard I fought to keep it alive. I was scared. I was tired. Sometimes I was falling apart. But somehow, I still found reasons to believe in another morning🇺🇦 #ukraine #ukrainians #ukrainiangirl #ukrainerussiawar #ukraineunderattack

Our Christmas tree has done enormously well out on the balcony - after repotting - with some help fromour neighbour chucking a bucket of water over it occasionally when we're away. I fear that Heatwave 4 (or is it 5) may do for it, poor thing

Let's be clear. Gay men can be misogynists, they can have male privilege, our experiences are not the same as women. But we are not heterosexual men either. We do not experience being a man in the same way straight men do, society reminds us of that on a daily basis. 7/

In other news: stopped by two charming Japanese (I think) kids. Thought they might want directions. The young woman wanted to 'practise' her presentation on something to do with a heavenly mother in the bible. I did explain it wasn't written in modern Hebrew but couldn't really advise otherwise.

I'm not sure, but I think I was just lightly cat-called, if that's still a thing. And odd, to happen to a slightly overweight over 60.

Yesterday evening we went for a pint and met an acquaintance. Had another and there was sky water on the way home. Support your local hostelry - it makes rain!!

This is very good, and also quite scary. I do wonder if we are already too far down the road to stop it all - I very much hope not. Thank you

Call from hospital at 10 mins to taxi to cancel / reschedule physio. Lovely woman, apologetic and very keen to rebook for this afternoon - if that would be convenient for me. I did not say: 'Yes, fine! but get off the phone, I need to cancel my cab'. Then she rang back cos the first slot had gone

Brilliant
