Everyone is treating the quoted text like the guy is just really dumb or weird. That's not what this is! It is manufactured consent! Do you not know how that works? It's a media tactic where you present a distorted version of reality as the baseline assumption and natural state of affairs.

Show everyone what you're covering up in these emails and texts. There's a reason you don't want them released.
a significant portion of my time in navy bootcamp was dedicated to basic health and hygiene as many of the young men in my division had seemingly never been exposed to any of these concepts we had many, many days dedicated to the nastiness of leaving racing stripes in one's underwear

I was once one of the few non-target women in a dept where a guy like this worked - I’d been warned & wasn’t polite to him, so he couldn’t get any warm fuzzies. (We’ve both long since left.) It was awful working somewhere that let a creepy old dude prey on every female trainee who came in the door.
This is a flavor of workplace creep that I’ve experienced more often than the Overt Bad Guy Predator variety. I don’t really think people are equipped to clock this happening around them and not resent the targets for getting preferential treatment/not dismiss their genuine fears for their safety.
