This is why I think it’s important to highlight how the status quo everyday background banal white supremacy is critical to building support for the more spectacular version everyone openly detests as “gutter” racism.
A lot of people, if not a considerable majority, occupy that passive acceptance as the status quo space, so what more rabid white supremacists have done is effectively create a motte and bailey argument where they get to push their ideas for global genocide and then retreat to the status quo bias.
I think a good way to think about the current moment is understanding white supremacy as a spectrum with passive acceptance as the status quo out to actively arguing for global genocide.
If there was tape it would have been the first evidence shown in court. There IS tape of Trump's motorcade driving over it in extremely heavy vehicles however.
