There’s lot to hate here but tech guys lobbying for favorable opinions from the pope is loser shit. New WPA to makes nerds feel bad about themselves again.

Statement from the pope that AI cannot make artNYT article on Anthropocene attempts to sway the pope’s opinion on AI

In the ‘10s libs convinced themselves that with solid evidence they’d get good bipartisan policy passed and that never happened because most people are driven by values not data. Anyway a lot of republicans don’t care about test scores because they value obedience over learning.

the other thing I feel here is that we've really lost the plot on education policy as a core topic of national politics there's so much room for a refocus on the issue that reads as ideologically cross-cutting but that makes a serious effort to fix a society-wide problem

One of my kids is off to college in a couple of days and something I’ve been noodling on over the last year is how the children of liberal, upper class parents can end up being valueless and swayed by reactionary politics because of the extreme emphasis placed on careerism

Can confirm, and the people working for them are either paid too well or don't touch enough grass to tell them differently. Their reality only goes as far as the company shuttle bus will take them. If they have any idea How It's Going out here, they're absolutely not telling their bosses about it.

Doesn’t matter how good your policy is if you can’t get elected and implement that policy and, just as importantly, keep it implemented. Evidence based policy has been completely poisonous for dems because it made them think they didn’t need to engage in the messy, humanness of politics.

Politics aside, do people believe city-run grocery stores with deeply discounted prices are a good POLICY idea? What are they intended to accomplish, in your view? What problem do they solve? Would you implement them if not running for election? I'm sincerely curious in people's answers here.

My dislike for evidence based policy and technocracy is hard won since I used to be a policy researcher who did this work. Left the field in ‘18 because in was clear even then that it was a political loser so the continued peddling of the Chart Life ethos in ‘26 is amazing.

A funny phenomenon that holds at every level of govt is that the more conservative candidate gets to be more openly unhinged than the progressive one and at the local level when two dems are competing this means the moderate one will act in a way they would otherwise condemn

"Cool kids on the Internet. They're doing the cool kid chatter. Some of 'em might be the coastal elites, making fun of how I talk. But let's be real. They're making fun of Michigan. They're thinking they're better than us. Their jokes, their criticism, only make me fight harder." -- Haley Stevens
