shut up

There is a custom on here of defending positions of essentially libertarian self-interest (I want to speed without consequence, I should have cheap delivery food) with left-flavored language (“well the rich can pay the ticket but the poor can’t”) that I find very annoying

Have seen people call speed cameras modern redlining and just nope. The usual reply seems to be they're just revenue generating schemes, and like sure cool whatever. If the state wants to levy a tax on me I can choose not to pay by not speeding then let's fucking go. Optional tax!

A good comparison to the Mamdani grocery stores are commissary stores, which sell at ~25% discounts compared to other grocers If you read their financials, commissaries provided 1.6 billion in savings, and got 1.57 billion in subsidies. So subsidies are basically 1:1 with savings.

The whole McConnell / Kentucky thing at this point is so incredibly revealing. Literally every day a new person goes mega viral on bluesky screaming that Democrats are worthless sellouts if they don’t actively help Republicans, and then turning furiously on anyone who points this out

The National Bureau of Standards, an agency within the US Department of Commerce, made a bigger contribution to plumbing science and standardization than any other entity in the world. It’s referenced either directly or in tables or methodologies in nearly every national standard even today.
