Kristin Rose Jutras 38m Devastated to share that my husband, @jutraslab.bsky.social, passed away. People are writing fake obituaries online/sharing on social media that Brandon died of Lyme disease. This is not true and is an affront to everything Brandon stood for as a scientist: the truth.
I'm heartbroken to share that Dr. Brandon Jutras, a former postdoc, has tragically passed away. He built a thriving lab at Northwestern Feinberg and became a leading voice in Lyme disease research. A brilliant scientist, devoted family man, and generous friend & colleague. He will be deeply missed.
Devastated to report that Brandon Jutras passed away a day or two ago. Brandon earned his PhD with me. He went on to be an Associate Professor at Northwestern University School of Medicine and a super star in Lyme research. A loving husband and father, a sincere friend, and a brilliant scientist 💔

Wait, what?! This isn’t about ribosomes? Check out our new work where we find that a #Legionella effector thought to target host translation instead targets metabolism by modifying a host glycolytic metabolite. Led by @drjoshblack.bsky.social www.cell.com/molecular-ce...
The Legionella pneumophila effector SidL is an adenylyltransferase that modifies the glycolytic intermediate 3-phosphoglycerate
Black et al. identify the L. pneumophila effector SidL as an adenylyltransferase that targets host glycolysis. SidL covalently modifies the glycolytic intermediate 3-phosphoglycerate (3PG) with AMP, g...

Nascent chain folding status modulates ribosome dynamics and mRNA stability through the ribosome-associated chaperone Zuo1
Chang et al. show that co-translational protein misfolding feeds back to ribosomes, slowing translation elongation and triggering mRNA decay. The ribosome-associated chaperone Zuo1 mediates this respo...

If my calculations are correct, if you started watching Ted Lasso today and did one episode a day every day, you’d finish just in time for the new season the next day. And the timing is great, what with the World Cup winding up.
4/ What if the key to understanding bacterial stress response is in their electrons⚡? Awardee @copperbae.bsky.social is tracking electron balance as a novel way to predict how well a bacteria's defenses are holding up. 🍾 Congrats Dr. Johnson! @uarizona.bsky.social 🙏 #HFScout @drkhaynes.bsky.social

Molecular Biology of Archaea: Life Through the Prism of Archaea
In 1977, Woese and colleagues revealed Archaea as a distinct domain of life. Building on this insight, the discovery of Asgard archaea has strengthened the view that many hallmarks of eukaryotic cell…
