It is sad that Scott Atlas doesn’t understand basic economics. Paul Samuelson wrote about public goods—why NIH has been such a stunning success—more than 75 yrs ago. Also, to see why Atlas urges ending US success, just look at who elevates him: pro-privatization billionaires. 1/

Clown shoes pro-oligarchy pablum, supported by far-right billionaires — a Hoover fellow, brought in by Trump 1 to blame others for COVID, arranged doubt via billionaire-funded AIER, and now writes in the Bezos Post.

Abolishing the NIH has always been this admin’s plan. They told us in Project 2025. They’ve SHOWN us with their actions over the past 18 months. This is why a heads down approach will not work. The scientific community has 2 options: oppose this with all we’ve got, or let them carry out their plan.

Scott Atlas, the champion of herd immunity as an Fox News commenter and the Trump Advisor during COVID, weighs in with a DEEPLY MININFORMED op-ed in the WaPo. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202... 1/7

Pancreatic cancer is still one of the deadliest cancers. However, there are promising strategies currently under investigation that have been delayed or harmed because of the Trump administration and Elon Musk's DOGE. CDMRP cuts left no money for many forms of cancer research including pancreatic.

NIH funding is like pizza 🍕. Usually, the NIH gives many researchers a slice of the pie, but this year they decided to just give a few researchers the whole pie. The data show that, disproportionately, early career researchers went hungry. We need Congress to stop NIH multi-year funding mandates.

A Trump administration change to how the National Institutes of Health awards grants has sharply reduced early-stage investigators’ odds of securing funding, new data from the agency show. Teamed up with @aniloza.bsky.social for this @statnews.com story www.statnews.com/2025/12/18/n...

It is utterly catastrophic that RFK Jr. plans to end CDC recommendations for most childhood vaccines. It’s a betrayal of science, ethics, compassion, and the people of the United States. And it was also a specific goal of Project 2025 (page 254).

Screenshot from project 2025 that says By statute or regulation, CDC guidance must be prohibited from taking on a prescriptive character. For example, never again should CDC officials be allowed to say in their official capacity that school children "should be" masked or vaccinated (through a schedule or otherwise) or prohibited from learning in a school building.
Such decisions should be left to parents and medical providers. We have learned that when CDC says what people "should" do, it readily becomes a "must" backed by severe punishments, including criminal penalties. CDC should report on the risks and effectiveness of all infectious disease-mitigation measures dispassionately and leave the "should" and "must" policy calls to politically accountable parties.
Conflicts of Interest. There was a time when the CDC could not take money

Today is World AIDS Day, which I acknowledge and uplift despite the current administration. We cannot abandon those affected. We also must celebrate that within my itty bitty lifetime, AIDS has become no longer an automatic death sentence because of a well supported biomedical research enterprise.

The number of ICE facilities has increased by nearly 100 over the last 12 months. According to the ICE facilities page, there are currently a total of 221 facilities holding detainees. By comparison, at this time last year, there were a total of 124 facilities that ICE reported on the list.

Sorry, #sfn25, you won’t see most NIH-ers there. Folks had to make a tough decision during the shutdown to cancel their travel. I know NIH researchers were looking forward to getting away from the daily brutality of working in the federal government and instead get to think/ talk about neuroscience.

🚨🚨 @jenna-m-norton.bsky.social is a force. Her voice carries power, truth, and courage—threats to the regime. The only thing authoritarians fear more than a voice they cannot control is a chorus. So let’s give them one: speak up, speak loudly, and don’t stop. Stand with Jenna. ✊🇺🇸

Trump’s HHS put me on “non-disciplinary” admin leave today. This was retaliation for speaking up. Moves like this are designed to silence us. Let’s not let. www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8Dteoop/

Jenna has been an inspiring colleague I’ve been honored to work alongside this year. It needs to be known after putting us through the longest shutdown (they say in official emails, “democrat-led” like how desperate), on Day 1 back to work they are putting people on admin leave again.

Over the weekend ICE abducted an NIH contractor when he showed up to a courthouse for his green card hearing. He is documented. His wife is a citizen. He is also member of the skeleton crew of animal care staff that works through a shutdown, to ensure the health and wellbeing of research animals.
