This is equally true for city planners and our plans and city-building ideas. You have to persuasively SELL those ideas to the public — a public that’s inundated with disinformation. And even once you get an idea or plan passed, you have to KEEP selling it, to “election proof” it.

You've got to work just as hard selling yourself to voters once you're in office as you did selling yourself to them to get into office. This is the way.
You know, I think that last pull from Pogačar was purely for MVDP’s benefit? He knew he wouldn’t be able to beat him at that stage, but he put another turn in anyway. Anyway that was awesome.

Our cul-de-sac is mostly old people. A family moved in last year, and on these warm evenings I love hearing the kids whizzing up and down on their scooters. This evening the rattle of the small wheels on the tarmac is accompanied by the lad singing to himself.

So so pleased that the Transport Committee has voted to make the EBLN permanent 🎉 There will be further hurdles to clear before we see perm infra replacing the temp planters, but it’s a big step forward

The #EBLN has created safe routes for walking, scooting and cycling to at least THREE local primary schools, and improved the journey to several more schools in the area for hundreds of pupils. This is exactly the kind of project the government will be looking to do more of.

It’s so easy to forget how controversial pedestrianising PVS and Cotham Hill was at the time. The Labour administration and Green councillors followed the evidence rather than the loudest voices, and just look at these streets now! We can do it again.

Protesters famously carried a coffin through Clifton Village, symbolising the “death” of the area if car parking and access was restricted. Yet the local council proceeded, and as the months passed, the feared collapse failed to materialise.
You’re about 10x less likely to die as a pedestrian in Amsterdam, than as a pedestrian in Portland, OR. The Netherlands overall is one of the safest places to be a pedestrian in Europe. Cities which have replaced bike infra for cars are better for pedestrian safety. They’re simply less dangerous.
