I’m generally a fan of Mission Local, so it’s disappointing when even they echo copaganda like “The SFPD staffing crisis is real and costs the city a fortune in overtime.” A staff shortage is SFPD’s opinion, and the linked article itself attributes the overtime cost to “potential abuse.”

Jonathan Hale was arrested by LAPD today for painting a crosswalk, even as the city of Los Angeles funnels more money to LAPD and does gymnastics to avoid implementing HLA. @mayor.lacity.gov, Jonny has made repeated attempts to meet with your office and has been iced out. Angelenos deserve better.

At SFGH for a candlelight vigil and memorial for Alberto Rangel, the social worker who was killed this week. This was predictable and preventable. It was a failure of systems and could have been any of the thousands of committed workers across DPH. We are all heartbroken.
It seems if you take Muni to BART, then get off BART and transfer back to another Muni line, you don’t get the free Muni to Muni transfer. You get charged another $2.35 for the second Muni ride (ie, only the BART to Muni 50cent discount). I’m salty about this.

Yesterday was the two year anniversary of our ceasefire resolution, and it’s brought up a lot of thoughts. More than anything, deep appreciation for all those who stood for human rights during that legislative fight and beyond, and deep sadness for the lives lost and the trauma inflicted. 🧵

Waymo lied about their robocar killing KitKat and the reality is so much worse. A woman is crouching near the front of the car trying to coax KitKat away. The moment she backs up, the car speeds away. A human driver would not have killed KitKat in this situation!

Many Waymo stans on this website argue it's fine for AVs to do illegal unsafe things as long as they're _less_ unsafe and lawbreaking than human drivers (which is itself asserted without evidence). Wild to see Alphabet itself openly embrace this logic, tho. They think they're above the law.

No other city department gets its own opinion about how much staff it should have constantly laundered through press as fact. Muni, Public Works, Dept. of Public Health, and many others have a much stronger case for *actually* being short-staffed relative to quality of services SFans deserve
