We have reached the point of the summer king tide season that the Santa Venetia Marsh berm is overtopping. We are about a month out from the highest summer tides. Remember that in the summer king tides happen at night!! @kingtides.bsky.social #KingTides #SanFranciscoEstuary #SFBay #SeaLevelRise
Our higher than average high tides have set a new record for sea level in (meteorological) Summer. A couple factors are unique to June 2026 and we’re likely to see more of this including dangerous surf at times through midweek. 6/14/2026 #BayArea #SanFrancisco #ocean #California #surf
The National Weather Service forecasts a tide 2 feet above the typical high tide in San Francisco on Sunday evening. That would be the highest summer tide on record by nearly 4 inches and among the 20 highest tides since 1897.
An advisory on Friday, June 12, warned a series of high tides, called king tides, are expected on Saturday, June 13, through Tuesday, June 16, in the evening hours.

California just experienced its warmest December since 1895, shattering the previous record by 1.3 degrees. That may surprise people in the bay and valley, but late-month warmth also offset the cold start there and a ring of records encircled the state. Read: www.sfchronicle.com/weather/arti...
The heat energy we added to the ocean LAST YEAR is the equivalent of: - Detonating ten hydrogen bombs every minute - operating over a hundred large power plants continuously for all of written human history - Five times all the electricity human beings have ever used
Ocean heat content increased by 23 billion trillion joules, which was around 39 times greater than global primary energy use this year. This is the largest rise in OHC since 2017; overall OHC has increased by over 500 zettajoules since the 1940s.
Questions about the highly disruptive recent King Tides in Northern California in the context of sea level rise? How about the potential for a (significant) El Niño event to develop by spring or summer? Join me live on Wed, Jan 7 at 2pm PT to discuss!

So delighted to join Friends of Sausal Creek and I (Heart) Oakland-Alameda Estuary for a fun and informative nature walk through Jingletown to the water's edge in Oakland. Well done, team and great time had by all - even in the rain! #oakland #kingtide #sausalcreek #sealevelrise #wildlife
Got some footage of the @kingtides.bsky.social overtopping the outer berm at Santa Venetia Marsh. There is a known population of @thesaltymouse.bsky.social here. Winter #KingTides are likely the deadliest time of the year for SMHM. Luckily the weather was pretty mild during these tides. 🌊🧂🐀🌊

The trifecta of King Tides, long period swells and storm surge are pushing crashing waves onto the road at Miramar Beach, Half Moon Bay. (sound on) 1/4/2026
Cruised over the the entrance to the Eastern span of the SF Bay Bridge for #KingTide today. Right up to the Bus Entrance Road, with just the cement barrier in between.
