Just a little grey duck in a big grey world. He/him. (Not to be mistaken for ho/hum.) If I have a "main topic" it's the game #Satisfactory. My main textual output is (or should be, if I'm behaving myself) over at my not-a-blog: https://greyduck.net

We tried "everyone is entitled to an opinion" for three straight decades and all we have to show for it is four thousand cases of measles and a death cult running the government. It's time for people who don't know what they're talking about to shut the fuck up.

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

Shook the rest of the frustration with this work week out of my soul by finishing up my combo Turbofuel-and-Computers project in my #Satisfactory random-nodes solo save. Next up? Heavy Modular Frames! (Yes, it needs aesthetic finishing. That's a post-Hoverpack project.)

Satisfactory video game screenshot: Aerial view of a complicated hybrid factory that turns crude oil into "Turbofuel" and (with some additional materials brought in via the truck bay at the bottom of the structure) Computers.

Worth noting that the new #MST3K installment, "Deathsport," should come with a "strobing lights sequence" warning. Also possibly a "Carradine's junk" warning, but I was already averting my eyes so I can't be sure on that one.

need people to stop reposting things that pissed them off on the bird site to here i stopped using that site for a damn reason!

please stop replying to game devs saying things like "well look on the bright side those laid off devs can start their own indie studios now" because eventually one of us is going to snap and "WITH WHAT FUCKING MONEY" would be a shitty last thing to hear before you die

If you're a Ubuntu webserver admin like myself (not that myself is someone you should strive to be like, I suppose) you will probably want to follow the linked README and also do a 'sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:ondrej/php' once you're on the new Sury repo. Then get your updated PHP packages.

Launchpad PPAs very slow at the moment. I wonder what's going on?😶‍🌫️ But if you're on ppa:ondrej/php and waiting for the patches, see packages.sury.org/php/README.txt for migrating to the merged PPA.

I imagine that it's a rough morning to be the PHP repository serving Ubuntu updates. Wait, I don't have to imagine: Neither of my servers can reliably get data from it yet. (As of this timestamp all the builds aren't done, so... hang in there, fellow Ubuntu server admins.)

I am deeply concerned that corporate vibe coding is going to destroy the quality and security of programs being sold and leave us with a workforce in 5 to 20 years that do not have the base skill sets to fix the slop they put out. We're not there YET.

Whatever you make today is the best version that you could have made today. Tomorrow you'll be better, but if you wait to make something on that level you'll never get anything made at all. This has been a very important maxim for overcoming a lot of my writer's block.

One of the problems with "indies will save games/animation/<insert medium here>" is no one has any fucking money Most people who would want to fund an interesting project do not have the resources to sustain the money faucet needed for any long term projects

Ah. Good. New anxiety source arrived a few minutes ago: Somebody thought it would be amusing to button-mash our doorbell at quarter past 7 in the evening and then scamper off. Hello unwanted adrenaline surge, hello unwanted new thing to be anxious about in my own home.
