In a college sociology class in the late 1980s I was assigned a Marxist analysis of education that argued that the US education system is designed primarily to produce efficient workers for the labor market. And now Trump’s Department of Education is just tweeting it out.

I actually think that the confusion over this question—the mistaken idea that perverts and preachers have opposing projects—is responsible for a lot of the stagnated and remedial quality of sexual politics discourses.

i'm a subscriber to the verge but i think the written excerpt posted here is a little unfair here. "we have an open protocol we want anyone to be able to build on" isn't really the same as saying "we want nazis on here". most of his response is actually about their work on live events like sports

The previous peak was in the late '00s when I was in school studying journalism in a program that was explicitly a Journalism/PR minor. Writing was already on the wall back then and if anything I was a bit surprised there was ever a dip in the numbers of PR people.

the point of most conspiracism isn't the prescription, it's the diagnosis. it lets people feel like they are cutting through complex information and accessing a secret truth. lab leak itself isn't always conspiratorial but this fauci stuff gives people a little hit of that.

The thing I can't really figure out about Lab Leak Theory is like... so what if it were true? Like is the idea that we could sue China for damages? That's not gonna work. It wouldn't really change anything both to how we responded to Covid and how we act going forward.

Like, I hear you! But we also can't kid ourselves that there are very specific, material reasons that most agricultural voting blocs love the GOP. And those reasons are straight up not compatible with democracy! Or even with a viable rural economy!

Truly insane how all anyone in this fucking administration, including the president, actually wants is just to be on TV. And now that actually having to govern has proven too hard and unrewarding they're all trying to find ways to get back on TV while still drawing those government salaries.
