I understand that paywalls are annoying, but the grim reality for everything right now, is if you want something to exist, you have to put money towards it. Every creative person is having their life's work hoovered up by AI companies. Layoffs never end. Private equity keeps making things worse.

Now that TGITS is over, I’m left thinking that its faithfulness was its greatest failing. The major’s characterisation changed somewhat jarringIy over the series, and the ending being 1995 again fell flat for me. I still adored it, mind, but it could’ve been more than it was.

The new Ghost In The Shell is amazing, but it makes me a little sad to see people backhandedly dismissing the older adaptations. SAC and the Oshii films are wonderful, and I always resent the idea that a faithful adaptation is inherently better or more artistically legitimate

It's Sunday. Might I suggest starting your day with a cup of coffee and my report on the modern era of Capcom — a story about many things, but a lot about how sensible decision-making and organisational stability can yield rich rewards. Western C-suites, take note!

Capcom is on a generational run. But this is no renaissance: the company has never been greater. I reported on the secret of its success, from "Crapcom" in the early 2010s to its one-banger-after-another present, speaking to many of its most illustrious producers. www.theringer.com/2026/09/03/v...
