This is fundamental problem here. If the RIGOP doesn't run candidates, no one can actually replace that. 28 candidates is the fewest seats Republicans have contested in the 113-seat era (prior to that it was 2014 when they ran 36). RI needs more parties (& perhaps a different ballot access method).

Maybe the New York Times could publish 75 think pieces asking "What horrible rot exists in the Republican Party that they would nominate this lunatic for governor?"

My not-so-hot take is that what Mamdani is doing *IS* incrementalism, and the bar is so deeply in hell that a politician just doing *anything* good consistently is a total anomaly for people. And I think for now that is good and fine, because it is restoring people’s faith that better is possible.
