PVD, RI, USA. "My kingdom for a plumbing license."

I'm hopeful because parallel to the high road runs a fork of id that also leads to the right outcome. The governor doesn't seem like the kind of guy who will forget our political version of "The Decision" that left him twisting for months.

Gov. McKee could do one really meaningful thing for the good of his state with what's left of this term. Or he could go the other way and reaffirm every jaded Rhode Islander's negative view of our state government and public servants, for years to come. turnto10.com/politics/gov...

Gov. McKee to review five Supreme Court finalists, including Shekarchi

Former House Speaker Joseph Shekarchi will be one of the candidates submitted to Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee.

I'm still really angry with Rhode Island. I don't want to be quiet or calm. I don't want to wait for the process to unfold. I don't want to "take it for what it is." I want change. I want the people who expect the trust of their neighbors to hold themselves to the highest ethical standards.

Two investors: One puts $100 into SpaceX in mid-June. The other puts $100 into AMC. Today, the one who bet on the chain showing The Odyssey would have 50% more money, and the SpaceX investor just lost more money faster than 90% of IPOs in history.

Not a soccer fan really, or maybe I am more of one now, but everything about the World Cup is more human, positive, and joyful than the Super Bowl. NFL could take some notes.

Publicly fund state rep / state senate elections, any candidate from any party who can gather X signatures (make it somewhat high, as demonstration of seriousness / interest by voters) is given, say, $7500 account, with strict spending rules (mailers, palmcards, lawn signs etc. only).

This is fundamental problem here. If the RIGOP doesn't run candidates, no one can actually replace that. 28 candidates is the fewest seats Republicans have contested in the 113-seat era (prior to that it was 2014 when they ran 36). RI needs more parties (& perhaps a different ballot access method).

A Brown economics professor gave his students a take-home midterm this spring after students expressed anxiety following a school shooting. The majority of the students got near-perfect or perfect scores. He decided to have finals in-person; 18 dropped the class, 7 skipped the finals, the rest...

Signal boosting this. "Right now, I am looking for anyone who can use the app and tell us what’s missing. If a phone number is wrong, tell us. If you know a resource we’ve overlooked, help us improve it. HOPE only succeeds if Rhode Islanders help build it." pvdeye.org/hope-app-rv/...

I’m Sleeping in A Shelter in Providence. And I Built an App for Folks Seeking Help With Basic Survival Needs.

Let me start with the most honest sentence I can write: I am sleeping in a shelter in Providence and building a free app to help people find shelters. Take a moment with that. I’ll wait. If your first...

America is the world's foremost experiment in creating a nation through creed instead of ethnic lineage, and MAGA is celebrating its 250th anniversary by claiming you "won't even have a country" without racial homogeneity, even as they wrap themselves in the flag.

My not-so-hot take is that what Mamdani is doing *IS* incrementalism, and the bar is so deeply in hell that a politician just doing *anything* good consistently is a total anomaly for people. And I think for now that is good and fine, because it is restoring people’s faith that better is possible.

A post from @matzollerseitz.bsky.social reads:

“So what I'm getting from this is, incrementalism is bullshit and we should just do the stuff that we say would be good for society”

And the post is quoting a post from @owillis.bsky.social that reads:
