Lockdown people are so funny. They pull out their hair at the fact that schools were closed for five minutes, and then you ask them if they actually want to educate poor and minority children and they’re like of course not

RFKJr claims Lyme disease was created by scientists, which is the closest he’s come to admitting that science exists. Meanwhile, Ötzi the Iceman, who died more than 5.3K years ago, had Lyme disease. Apparently prehistoric humans are part of the conspiracy. Get me off this timeline

i'm so tired of trying to use an app or a website like a normal person and then the ceo will be like "i don't see enough racists on my app and that means it's a total failure. i need everyone who uses my app to get super fucking racist right now, or i'm going to kill myself in front of you"

it's cool knowing there's massive forest fires forcing evacuations and destroying massive swathes of my corner of the country, and even cooler knowing nobody in washington will stop that asshole from denying disaster relief purely out of spite.

the concept is staring us right in the face. the ai bros said they want to make intelligence something you buy like a utility. destroy enough publicly available knowledge, sit on it like a dragon's horde, erase context, create their own. even the most hackneyed bond villain wasn't this evil.

This is NOT about preservation. They are only doing this to harvest pre 2020's books to use for more training data. They have chosen this method that DESTROYS the book on purpose, because it is faster and cheaper. They know time is limited before society and the bubble catches up with them.

A picture of a tweet showing a woman preserving a book by taking pictures of it in a special picture rig that does not harm the book.

Internet Archive

At the internet Archive, this is how to digitize a book.

We never Destroy a book by cutting off its binding.
Instead, we digitize it the hard way -- one page at a time.

No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.

AI labs buy, scan, shred millions of rare books

If you have retreated to physical books because the internet is too full of AI slop, bad news — now they’re shredding the books to feed their AI slop machines.

OpenAI is now by their own admission guilty of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act *at least twice* and nobody's been arrested but Aaron Swartz was going to spend the rest of his life in prison for helping people read academic journals for free. Fuck all of these motherfuckers.

lrp tangential, but i wonder if there's ever been a player who looked at the hitbox and was like 'they were LYING to me!?' instead of seeing it as a form of leniency. not that i have any info, but i wonder if any stg players felt cheated when they first played a game that showed the hitbox.
